"I'm sorry but you did not get the job. You can try next time"
"We can't go on vacation again. Your father has to work extra hours to help us pay off this debt"
"Your cousin got into an accident. He is now hospital in the ICU."
"We like to announce the passing of-"
Why just why. Ariana thought to herself. Everything that she dreamed for this summer was just ruined. Summer 2016 was suppose to be life changing and it was. Just not in the way she expected it.
Her family was experiencing finacial issues and not being able to get a job due to either being "over-qualified" or "under experienced". She stressed trying to find a way to make money and no way she was doing anything illegal.
The mini vaction the family was able to afford was cancel. She wanted it. She needed it. She had to get away from this town and the people who were whispering things behind her back about her and family. Sadly it wasn't possible anymore.
Ariana never cried so hard in her life. When she heard about the deadly accident her cousin was in, she was thankful that he was still somewhat alive. What bothered her is how the person just hit and run and left the family struggling with more and more bills. Her cousin was like a big brother to her. She loved him dearly and this had her hurting.
Three days later, they announced her cousin dead. She couldn't cry anymore. All her tears were gone. She just wanted to be alone. State of depression fell upon her. This summer was just disastrous. She was mourning and sulky everywhere she go. The town folk called it an extreme case of Summer Time Blues.
The only person who could try to be a cure to this sickness was her best friend Harry. He wanted to spend the entire summer with her, but he had responsibilities that would have an effect on his future. The NBA was his future and he did everything to make sure he would get there. He didn't feel right. He had a friend back home hurting and it was his duty to try fix it.
Walking into Ariana's room, Harry almost did not recognize his best friend. She was weary. Her usual cheery smile was now a frown and her bright eyes now carried bags.
"Ari. You have to get out this house it will make you feel better." Harry said as he scanned her almost life less body.
"Everything reminds me of what is going on. Everyone reminds me of my misery." she said very weakly. She just want to stay crawled up in her bed.
"Trust me. Where I am taking you, will cheer you up a bit. No one is going to talk" he said putting his hands on her shoulder. He looked into her eyes to show that he was telling her the truth.
"No no" she said shaking her head. "They will talk. They talk about my family. They talk about me. They say I am a crack addict. They say I am a criminal. They say I am a curse to my family. I don't want to hear they." she said breaking down again. This was the fourth time she did for the day. Harry hold her until she couldn't cry anymore. He took her and and give her some clothes so she can get ready. She obliged and got ready for this journey that Harry was carying her on.
Like she mentioned before, people were talking as soon she left the house. She wanted to turn back, but Harry said everything was going to be alright.
"Where are you taking me?" she said sighing into her seat.
"First we are going to eat. You need some food in your system and then to the carnival." he said with a slight smile on his face. Her face light up for the first time when she heard the word carnival. That was her favourite place to go during this time of year.
Harry pulled up to this little burger shack. Ariana was amaze on how small it was but it held so much character. Harry opened the door for her and lead her to the restaurant. They were greated by smell of fresh burgers straight off the grill, causing Ariana's belly to growl at bit.
After placing their orders, Ariana decided to see what is going on in her best friend's life since he left in May.
"So how is the superstar life treating you." she said teasing him a hit. He smacked his lips and shoke his head at her in amusement.
"Firstly, I'm not living a superstar life. And too the experience and journey is quite eventful." he said playing with a napkin.
"That is cool. No new girls. You must get about 20 new girls in your dm's a day." she said with a full smile on her face. He was happy that she was finally smiling. No worries just pure joy.
"Ari you know you the only important girl in my life." he said kissing her forehead. Their food arrived and ate in comfortable silence. Ariana was extremely greatful at this moment. She thank God for Harry and she prays not to lose him.
After a hour drive, the pair arrived to the carnival. Ariana was jumping up and down like a little girl while Harry recorded this beautiful momment.
"I can't believe you actually brought me here. Thank You." she said dragging him pass the gates of the Carnival.
"Where do you want to go first?" Harry said looking around at all the rides and games.
"That one. Please." she pouted as she pointed towards the rollercoaster.
The pair went through every ride, played every game, he even won her a big stuff bear and ate every junk food that were available to them. To end the day, they were on ferris wheel watching the firework show.
"Harry." she whispered to him.
"Yes, is everything okay" he asked pulling her closer to him.
"I don't want this night to end. I do not want to go back home. I do not want you to leave again." she said with her eyes watery. Harry thought this was the right time to tell her.
"Ariana. You don't have to worry about going back home. I've talk to your parents and they think it is wise for you to stay with me. Well until it is time for college in September. I'm not going anywhere." she grabbed him the biggest hug. She felt safe and relieved.
She finally got the cure to her Summer Blues
Harry
