Charlie eventually made her way down the stairs to the first floor. When she opened the door to the classroom it was almost full and Blanche was already in the front preparing for her presentation.
After a few odd looks Charlie realized that her hair was still down, looking for her hair band and not finding is she realized that Kellan had kept it.
She sat in her usual seat and waited with the rest of the class. It was right on the hour when Kellan came into the room. He had changed into his blue jeans and a t-shirt, his haircut and shaved jaw still caught Charlie off guard as her eyes were drawn to him. She briefly looked around and saw most of the class was staring at him with looks mild curiosity.
"All right these are the names I would like to get through today."He was looking down reading off of a note pad.
A murmur went through the room as his voice was recognized. Charlie tore her eyes away from him and looked at Blanche who mouthed some words at Charlie that made her hide a smile.
When he was done he looked up at the class taking in their expressions of shock and recognition.
"Are there any questions?" He raised an eyebrow at their continued silence.
A young woman in the back raised her hand. "How come we had to dress up and you didn't?"
"Let me rephrase that, are there any pertinent questions pertaining to the class and what we are here for today?" There was the Dr. Hilliard that they all knew. The class was silent as he let his gaze wander over them. After a moment he nodded and turned to sit in the front row.
Blanche was getting ready to begin when the door to the room opened and Brad entered, looking around. When he spied Charlie he headed right for her, not noticing Kellan in the front row.
Charlie froze as he approached her, watching him, completely unaware of anything around her. Brad had a look that she had not seen in over eight years, it was a look of such hate and disgust that Charlie felt tears automatically start.
"Wren!"
Charlie saw Brad jump at the sound of his name. Charlie had jumped too and she would not have been surprised if half of the class had as well.
Brad stopped halfway towards Charlie and turned to look at Kellan.
"Do you need something?" His tone was firm, his stance wide as he crossed his arms.
"Yes, I need to talk-,"
"No, everything that needed to be said was said. Dean Matthews asked you to leave. You're not a current student of this University so I suggest you follow her request."
Charlie was holding perfectly still, focusing on her breathing, not looking at Brad but staring at Kellan who was focused on Brad.
Charlie felt Brad turn to look at her, considering what his next move was going to be.
The whole classroom was silent as they watched the scene that was unfolding in front of them. Charlie still had hope that they were clueless that she was involved. Her name had not been mentioned, but the longer Brad stared at her the less likely it was becoming.
She watched the muscle in Kellan's jaw jump as he clenched and unclenched his tensed jaw and the tense silence continued. "What are you not getting about this situation Wren?" Kellan asked, his voice deadly calm and full of steel.
Something in the tone sent shivers up Charlie's spine and made Brad turn around to look at him.
"What will you do Hilliard? Physically remove me from the campus?" It was a weak challenge.
