(It's been very long since i've actually written and it sucks.)
It wasn't thought of. Never even once. The thought of her little brother becoming.... More of a monster than he already was. It'd been a few weeks since she'd been keeping an eye on him. And it'd also been a few weeks since he'd started... Glitching again. It was out of nowhere, she could only wonder what he'd been up to that would start this back up again. She did know that it was not like the times before, the clean glitches that would sometimes jumble his thoughts that would end up coming out in a mess of words. This time, it seemed more painful. Each time, the cracks on his side would spread up his torso more, the familiar black liquid dripping onto the table underneath him. He'd cry so much. It wouldn't stop until she put him under, and it didn't seem okay for her to keep doing this. Cakey was no scholar or anything, and she certainly wasn't a doctor; but she wasn't stupid. She made sure to take care of him as best as she could, and when he was peaceful, she'd read books on how to treat people, or just medical books in general.
Her phone vibrated on the desk next to her and scared her out of thought. Setting down her book, she picked up the phone, gently mumbling a hello to whoever had called her. She relaxed when she heard Ink speak back to her, until guilt hit her again. "Hey Cakey, I was wondering if..." He began, then his words faltered. She furrowed her brows, biting her lip momentarily before breathing in. "I'm- I'm sorry. Seems we still haven't been able to do much." Silence. Cakey could tell the boy on the other end of the phone call was once again losing false hope. Looking over at Dali, she blinked and gave a weak smile to no one in particular. "But, If you wanted to come in and see him...." She jumped at the sudden loud, yet enthusiastic noise that came from the speaker. "Yes, yes! I'll uh, i'll be over in a bit!" Click. She sighed, setting the phone down and standing, walking over to the person in question. She stared down at his pale face, running her hand against his forehead, watching him turn his head towards her a bit, opening his eyes as much as he could, a small smile on his face. "Hi." Cakey forced herself to smile back as he mustered some noise for the first time in a while. He hadn't been able to speak, not for the few weeks he'd been in this lab room. "Hey baby.. You feeling okay? If not, you can go back to sleep.." She spoke gently, continuing to rub her thumb over his forehead. Dali was quiet again, looking as if he truly didn't know how to respond. She shook her head. "Try not to strain yourself." Her voice shook slightly, and she had to hold her breath as he opened his mouth again, only silence and his anxious noises. When she heard her assistant knock on the door, she kissed his forehead and walked off. She left the room, standing right at the door and looking down at Aaron; who stood there with papers. "So, I was looking at the samples again. Nothing is the same, it's never constant unless you define the things that are changing. Constant." He flipped through some of them, looking up at her. "I don't want to sound like I don't care, and I really don't, but maybe it's time we give up." The two stood in silence while they stared at one another. "I.. I understand. And I have thought about it," Cakey began, leaning against the door, arms crossed. "But.... I'm not going to give up on my baby brother. Not after how much time and effort we've put in." Her eyebrows furrowed. "Especially because of how many people are depending on me to fix this." Aaron looked at her carefully, studying her expression before nodding. "Well then, Add another person to the list." He mumbled, turning and beginning to walk down the hall. "I'm counting on you to save him." He added, before disappearing into his office. Cakey stood there, blinking. She shook her head and made her way to the front door, smiling as Ink walked up to the building. She opened the door for him, shutting it once he entered. "He's awake, and I think he'd be happy to see you." Cakey spoke, leading him to the lab. "He's very...." She stopped and looked in the window, her voice faltering. "V-very.." Her heart caught in her throat as the heart monitors reading was flat. She violently shoved her way in, Ink following. She couldn't tell who was more in a panic, Him or her. She ran over to him, rubbing his cheek while pulling out some needles. "Dali, Come on hun you gotta wake up!" When there was really no response from him other than a slight jerking movement, she pulled the syringe up, pushing it into his arm and pushing the top down. Ink called her attention when the monitor lit back up, a steady heartbeat on it. "Is he okay?" He asked, watching intently. Cakey looked down at him, jumping slightly when he inhaled sharply, coughing and cringing. Getting rid of the used needle, she gestured for Ink to come over, in which he did hastily. Dali blinked, looking at him, eyes shining as if he'd been cured. One could only hope. "Hi buddy." Ink laughed softly, holding one of Dali's hands tightly. Much to Cakeys surprise, Dali raised his other arm, Signing very quickly to Ink. She smiled, turning and walking off a bit to give them some space. Hours had gone by that she'd been at her desk writing before she heard a loud noise. Turning, she stood quickly, eyes wide with fear. Ink had back pressed against the glass of the window, a large black creature slowly moving from the table towards him. Cakey blinked, moving quickly as she ran over, grabbing Inks arm and pulling him away, a shiver running up her spine as the creature fell onto the floor; liquid oozing underneath it. She pulled Ink with her, leaving the room and locking the door. "What happened?!" She asked, looking at the other who looked horrified. He simply shook his head, a hand over his mouth. Cakey didn't wait for a reply, pulling him along with her as she walked to Aaron's office, opening the door.
While she didn't expect to see Winston as well, she wasn't surprised. Shaking her head, she looked at the two of them. "Come on, we need to get out of here." They both looked up as she spoke, a questioning look as they walked over. "What's going on?" Aaron spoke, raising a brow. "There's a problem." Cakey spoke, "I think.... I think he's fully corrupted. There's nothing we can do at this point." The four stood in silence before Winston cleared his throat, stepping out of the room. "Well, Then I think we should get out of here shouldn't we?" He smiled at Cakey, who simply glared back. "If you want, we can escort Ink out while you do your thing." He blinked, arms crossed. Cakey looked down at Ink and back to Winston before nodding and walking past him. "Make sure that those two are put in a safe spot." She spoke harshly, only a murmur of acknowledgement to go off of.
When she walked back to the window, she carefully stared at it. The being seemed to be trying to get out, and it was fuzzy, but she swore she could hear something. She yelped slightly as a loud bang came from in front of her, the blackness oozing out of a new crack that had just formed. Cakey breathed in, taking a few steps away, watching as the window cracked more and more, finally breaking and the creature falling out with it. It moved at a fast speed, moving towards her and hitting the wall as she jumped out of the way. She stared before turning and starting to run down the hall, the beast of a thing following after her. She turned the corner, hitting into something, she looked up to see Winston there. "Why are you still here!?" She questioned, pushing him back, listening intently. He blinked and furrowed his brows. "Like I'm going to just leave you here." The two stood in silence for a moment, and as Cakey went to speak again, she turned. "C-cakey..?" The voice was faint, but she heard it. She went to step out, only being pulled back by Winston. "It hurtssssss....." The voice slowly droned on, becoming harder to understand as it garbled.
