Chapter 6

[Del's POV]

My life couldn't get worse. For once in my life I expressed my feelings and what do I get? Rejection. I kind of expected it. How do I expect Katie to go from hating me to loving me? That's just crazy. I guess I'll play it off like nothing happened since we still have to finish this project. After this I'll just avoid her, which is hard since we're in the same friend group. I guess eventually it'll be like it never happened, or at least I hope so.

"Hey Del, where's the data?" "Uh...I think I left it in the car. I'll be right back." Shit. I didn't write most of it down. I was too busy looking at how cute Katie was to write down what was happening. I guess I'll make some of it up. 

~A few moments later~

"Here you go." I handed her the journal which had sloppy 'data' from today in it. "Are you sure this is it? I feel like it was more people but whatever." "Well, I kinda went to the bathroom in the middle so I probably missed some people." I feel bad for lying but I don't want to tell her why I really missed so many people, it would just make things awkward. I just kept typing away at the computer entering some details before the data was entered.

"Del, will you come here for a minute?" "Yeah, sur.." I was swiftly cut off with Katie's lips. I was frozen for a moment but soon realized that she was actually kissing me. I started kissing back and wrapped my arms around  her waist, pulling her closer to me. She wrapped her arms around my neck slowly pulling me down closer to her level. It got pretty heated pretty fast and I slowly moved her to the bed. I gently laid her down as I lay down on top of her supporting my weight on my arms. Right as it got good, "Honey? I'm home and I got dinner! Is Katie here? I got some food for her just in case!" I stood up almost immediately and we both tried to act natural, fixing our clothes and sitting on the bed looking at the data as if we had been sitting there for hours. My mom walked in soon after Katie and I had exchanged awkward glances worried that my mother would find out what had happened. 

"Hi honey! Hi Katie! Good thing I got enough food for all of us! I got Chinese food, orange chicken, is that okay?" "Sounds great! Thanks so much Ms. Dennis." "Oh, call me Michelle. No need for formalities here sweetie." "Okay. Thanks Michelle." We both slowly made our way down to the dining room. On the way down, Katie intertwined her fingers with mine. It was an amazing feeling. I think I love her. We both let go as we went and sat down with my mother. 

Conversation was relatively normal, talking about the project and whatever other small stories that pop up, normal conversation stuff. And then my mother's curiosity took over. "So do you two like each other?" "Well of course it would be hard to do this project without being friends." We both laughed a bit nervously knowing what may come. "No, I mean like more than friends. You know, romantically?" "Mom! Really?!" "What honey? Its an honest question." "Well Michelle, I know Del isn't gonna tell you but we have romantic feelings for each other but we kinda just figured that out today so there's not really a label on it yet. Just feelings for each other." I looked between the two with my mouth hanging open, not sure what to expect from either of the women. Nothing happened a new conversation came about and the two acted like nothing big had happened. Women. I will never understand them.

While washing the dishes my mother took the chance to talk to me alone while Katie had gone to the bathroom. "I really like her. I want you to know that I 100% approve and encourage you two going out." "Mom, chill. I don't even know what this is yet. Like she said, we haven't put a label on it or anything. It's just feelings." "Okay, just putting that out there for you sweetie. Have you two kissed yet?" "MOM!!" "Okay, okay I'll stop. You can't kill a mother for being curious about her only son's love life. It's only what us mothers live for."
