Lydia’s mum heard the front door close and walked through to the living room.

“So, you going to be seeing that Niall boy again anytime soon?” She grinned at her daughter who had walked over to the window to watch Niall pull away.

But Karen’s expression swiftly turned from one of cheeky curiosity to one of horror.

“Lydia Emily Darling!” She exclaimed angrily, grabbing the dark haired girl’s forearm and pulling her around to face her.

“Huh?” Lydia frowned, scared at her mother’s sudden change of mood. It was confusing to say the least.

Karen just ran a hand through her hair frantically. “A Range Rover?!” She shouted. “He has a Range Rover!”

Lydia couldn’t help but giggle humourlessly. What was wrong with that? She happened to think the Range Rover was gorgeous.

“Um yeah, he has a Range Rover,” Lydia confirmed the obvious, Niall’s car now driving out of sight.

“It’s drugs isn’t it?” Karen whispered shakily. “He’s a drug dealer! I knew it!”

Lydia burst out into laughter at that, finally understanding. Yeah, they didn’t live in the greatest neighrbourhood. And some pretty dodgy things went on in the area, a lot of crime and drugs and arson. So yeah, a teenage boy driving a £70,000 car would certainly raise some eyebrows.

“Mum,” Lydia said, guiding her panicking mother over to sit on the sofa. “Niall doesn’t sell drugs.”

Karen just glared at her, proving that she did not believe a word of it.

“Mum, go into Carmen’s room.”

“What? Why?” Karen snapped. Her mind was rushing round, telling her that she had failed as a mother and panicking that her daughter, after everything she had been through, had gotten herself into drugs.

“Just trust me?” Lydia begged. “Please?”

Karen sighed, but got up and stomped upstairs nonetheless.

And the face she was wearing when she came back down, after finding Niall’s head plastered on Carmen’s wall, was pretty freakin’ hilarious.

“Where’ve you been, bro?” Zayn asked when Niall barged through the door of his apartment to find the boys already waiting for him.

Niall shrugged off his jacket and dumped his car keys on the table. “Sorry boys, I was with a friend,” he said, trying to keep it vague. He should have known that the boys would have none of it.

His four bandmates exchanged mischievous smirks before they all flew off the sofa to dive at Niall, pinning him on to the wooden floor. They knew they wouldn’t get anything out of him unless they forced it. Niall, although probably the most open member of the band, was the one who kept most quiet about his love life.

“It’s a girl, isn’t it?” Louis grinned, his face uncomfortably close to Niall’s, who tried to squirm away but was pinned in place by Harry sitting on his back and Liam holding down his legs.

“Ugh! Fine. Yes, it’s a girl!” Niall admitted, sighing. He had hoped to at least ask Lydia out on a date before he told anyone about her. For all he knew, nothing would come of it and everyone knowing of his failure would just be embarrassing.

“S’all we wanted to know,” Zayn grinned before nodding at Liam who let go of Niall’s legs. Harry rolled off his back and Louis moved away from his face, allowing Niall to get up.
