It's Haylee's fifteenth birthday, but she isn't excited at all. Her father never remembers her birthday, and even when he does, all she gets is a grunt, and less of a beating. The only thing she can be happy about is Owen, her only friend. They've been friends since they were thirteen. He was the only one that got her a present, made her a cake, and even throw a small party for her. Of course she would have to sneak out, but it should be easy. Her dad never leaves his room anyway, unless it's for alcohol and drugs. So it was set, at 8:00 P.M., she will climb out the window, down a rope, and run into the woods behind her house. It's such a simple plan. It couldn't possibly fail, could it?
