Shane sets up his camera and places 2 chairs in front of it. I stand and watch him work, rocking back and fourth, resting my hands on my bump and I do. All of a sudden, I feel a slight movement in my tummy. The baby is kicking!
"Shane, come quick!" I shout as he is now in the next room. He comes running in with a worried look on his face.
"What? What's wrong?" He rushes towards me and holds my hands looking into my eyes for any signs of pain or worry. He has been on edge for a good 3 weeks.
"Nothing is wrong Shane, here." I move his hands to where I felt the kick. I hold his hand there and then we feel it again. I watch as Shane's face lights up. His eyes meet mine, he kisses me and then continues to work. This is going to be the video when we announce the fact that I am pregnant. Shane hasn't been vlogging as much as he usually does because a) he has forgotten and b) he wanted to make a video to announce it so he didn't want to give anything away. These 8 months have gone really fast. I am due in 6 weeks time. I can't believe it has come round so fast. Shane leads me to the chair and he continues to set up his stuff. Just to update you all, things have been going quite well. Shane is in the process of getting a movie made and he is currently writing the script. Joey Graceffa and Jade are now dating (which I am really happy about, they are so cute together) and Shane has been taking picture of me and the baby like he said he would. So there you go, a quick update. I went for another scan yesterday and the doctor asked if we wanted to know the sex of the baby. We both said we wanted it to be surprise. Though, I do really want a baby girl. I don't really know why. I snap out of my thoughts when Shane presses record on the camera and sits down next to me.
"Hey guys and I know, before you say anything, I know it has been a long time since I have done a proper Friday video and that it because we have been occupied with other things which we shall be revealing at the end but now it is time for...ASK SHANE!" My eyes widen. I thought we were just doing a simple video telling them all that I am pregnant but no, obviously not. Its not that I don't enjoy doing ask Shane's with Shane but the truth is, I really need to pee! It is really hard having a baby inside you, pushing down on your bladder. You need to pee, a lot! Shane stops his camera, I assume that is where that ask Shane theme music will come in. I start to stand up, with some struggle and I start walking to the loo.
"Where do you think you're going?" Shane asks when he notices me walking away. I turn around and just look at him.
"I am going to pee Shane, it that okay?" I say, joking with him.
"No, you must pee in this bottle," As he says this, he hands me an empty plastic bottle. I give him a plain look and carry on to the loo.
Once I am finished, I walk back into the room where we are filming and I see Shane sat on one of the chairs, writing in something with a little bag by his side. I cough and the look of shock on his face is priceless.
"Turn around." He says in a state of panic. I laugh and turn so I can't see where he is hiding the things he has got. "Okay, you can turn around now." I turn and see him sat back on the chair now with nothing in his hands. I smile at him and carry on walking to my seat, kissing Shane's head on my way past. I sit in my seat and I am now ready to carry on with the Ask Shane.
"Right, first question, this is from Chloe and she says, Hey Shane, when are you going to do another Ask Shane? Well Chloe, right now!" I can't help but laugh at how sarcastic he is. He hands the phone over to me and I look through the questions, trying to find a good one. Ahh, this one looks pretty good.
"This one is from Jenna and she says, Alice, that's me, how do you put up with Shane's weird habits?" I laugh to myself and look over at Shane who is waiting for my reply. "Well Jenna, i love all of shane's weird habits apart from the fact that he farts, all the time!" I say looking over at Shane and kissing his cheek. I can see that he is trying to squeeze out a fart but it just isn't happening. "Try not to hurt yourself honey!" I laugh, patting his shoulder.
"it will come, later." Oh god! We continue answering people questions until Shane finds the perfect question to finish the Ask Shane part of the video.
"Okay, our final question. This one is from Ellis and she says, Hey Shane, when are you and Alice going to have a baby? Well Ellis, you have ruined the big announcement. Because Alice and I are going to have a baby!" Shane reaches for his camera and points it to me and my baby bump. I smile and wave, not really knowing what to do!
"Yes, Alice is about 8 month pregnant, we wanted to keep it a secret and surprise you all so SURPRISE! we don't know whether or not if it is a boy or a girl, we wanted it to be our surprise." then I have an idea, I have been saving this surprise for Shane.
'Shane, I have a surprise for you. This is my last scan." I say handing him the small piece of card. He studies it hard and then his face lights even more. He looks up at me with tears in his eyes.
"Is this what I think it is?!" I nod.
"Yes, Shane, we are having twins!" I say hugging him and him crying on my shoulder, on camera. This is a very perfect moment!
***1 month later***
Okay, so I am due next week! I am freaking out, as is Shane. we have a bag full of my clothes packed by the door for when I will go in and every time I wince or go ooo, Shane flips out and asks me if it is time. It is quite funny. Also, every since we put the video up about the babies, we have had so much baby things through Shane's PO box. It is insane! So many baby grows, toys, little items of clothing. It is amazing. We have got all of the things ready for when they arrive. We have painted the baby's room. (Yellow because it is neutral) We have got the cots, changing tables, dressers with clothes, baby monitors, bottles, blankets, hankies, boxes for toys, the works! Shane is so excited but I am getting to the point where I can't wait for these things to be out of my body.They are so heavy!
Shane and I are currently sat on the sofa, watching cake boss. I love this show. During the advert break, one of those 60 second news things came on and it was not good news!
"Hello and welcome, this is your 60 second update. There have been major storm warnings with winds reaching 80mph. We suggest that all residents stay inside their homes while the storm is in your area. Fire and ambulance services will be on standby just in case of any emergencies. Stay safe, thank you and goodnight."
At this point, Shane is looking at my with worry written all over his face.
"Look, it will be okay Shane, like they said, the ambulances will be on standby and besides, I am due next next week, I'm sure the storm will be gone by then." I smile at him and kiss his cheek. I think we will be just fine.
***Next day***
Shane's POV
I am on edge all the time! I only got a few hours of sleep last night because I am constantly thinking, is she okay? When will it happen? All these questions running through my head all the time! And this storm isn't helping either. The thunder started at 2AM and I didn't fall asleep until 5 then my alarm went off at 7 because Joey and Jade are coming over today and Joey and I are doing a video. I roll out of bed and leave Alice to sleep. Even though she is pregnant, she still looks like and angel when she sleeps. I go into the bathroom and get ready before I take Cindy for a walk. That is our little dog, she is a pug (The dog I have always wanted.) and I have to take her out for a walk every morning and every night because she is only a puppy. I grab something to eat and grab the lead.
"Cindy?" I call out and I hear her feet tapping on the floor as she gets closer. I knows what time it is but she doesn't look as excited as she usually does when I am about to take her out. I put the lead on her and walk towards the door but as I do Cindy starts pulling away. I give a confused look and carry on walk to the door so she gives up and follows me. I unlock the front door and pull it open, but that is a big mistake. The wind and rain pours onto the roads and trees are bending and breaking. There is even a tree fallen in out front garden. I look down at the shivering little pug and decide that maybe a walk isn't the best idea today. I close and lock the door and take off Cindy's lead. I hang it back up and collapse on the sofa. I hear creaking and movement from upstairs. Alice must be up then. More worry sets in. Now that I have seen how bad it is outside, the ambulance might not be able to get her in time. We are quite far from the hospital. Though, thinking about it, I think our neighbours are in the medical side of things. If worse comes to worse then I shall go round and ask them.
"Good morning honey." I hear someone say. I turn around and see my beautiful wife standing behind me. I stand up and pull her into a hug and I give her a morning kiss. I then crouch down and say good morning to the twins. I put my hand in her bump and I feel a slight kick. I smile to myself and look back up at Alice.
"What would you like for breakfast?" I ask, not wanting her to do it herself. She asks for pancakes so I walk over to the kitchen and makes them.
Alice's POV
We have had breakfast and now Joey and Jade are here. The pancakes Shane made were amazing. But now the boys have gone off to a different room to start filming their video so Jade and I are left to chat.
"So how have you and Joey been?" I ask. The fact that they are going out is so cute!
"We are pretty good actually. Joey has organized a holiday in a couple of months. I have no idea where we are going but I can't wait. He is so romantic. We have also moved in together." She says, blushing.
"What about Sophie? Is she living with you too?"
"Yea, she has the spare room but we don't mind. Joey treats her like she is his own little sister, it is so cute! How about you? How are you and Shane doing?"
"Well, we have been really good thanks. But Shane has been on edge over the past week because of the babies. Every time I make a noise, he thinks I am going into labour." I laugh and Jade does too.
How are you Alice?" She asks all of a sudden.
"I am fine Jade, really I am," I say with a smile. Then I feel something, a small pain. I think I will pass that one off as a kick. At least I hope it was a kick. No, it isn't labour. It is too early. I suddenly realise that I haven't offered Jade a drink, how rude of me!
"I am so sorry Jade, I haven't offered you a drink," I chuckle.
"That's alright," she smiles but I can tell she needs a drink.
"Would you like a drink Jade?" I ask.
"Yes please, a cup of green tea if you have it." Which we do. I stand up and start walking over to the kitchen but then I feel something warm run down my leg. I defiantly have not peed myself! OH NO, I think my waters have broken!
"Alice, is everything alright? Jade sounds a little bit concerned. I turn around a look into her eyes. At this point, she stands up and walks over to me.
"My waters have broken Jade, its time!" I say and Jade face lights up and she runs upstairs to where Shane and Joey are filming.
Shane's POV
Joey and I end the video, still with tears in our eyes from the amount of laughing we did. I turn my camera off and plug it into my computer. I think that is one of the best videos I have done with Joey. Luckily the storm didn't interrupt our recording, it is really bad out there. Thank god Alice is due next week. I can hear the girls laughing and chatting downstairs so everything is fine. So I think I will take this chance to chat to Joey and see how his life is.
"So Joey, how are you and Jade?" I ask.
"Things are going really well. We live together now and Sophie lives there too. Yea I am loving it. Also I am taking Jade to Greece in a few months, just the 2 of us but she doesn't know where we're going, don't tell her." Joey replies with a wink. I laugh and that's when Jade comes bursting though the door with a look of happiness mixed with worry. I didn't even know that emotion existed.
"Jade, what's wrong?" I ask thinking something happened outside in the storm.
"Shane, its Alice, her waters have broken!" My face drops and my heart beat increases. I look at Joey and he looks at me. I get up, almost throwing my chair in the ground and I run down to see Alice laying in the floor.
"Oh my god, Alice are you okay?" I say grabbing hold of her hand. I hear Joey try and call the hospital but he doesn't get through. I pull my phone out of my pocket and dial 911. I finally get through.
"Hello, 911 emergency response, how can I direct your call?"
"Ambulance please." I am directed to the local hospital.
"Hello my name in Ellis, how can I help you?
"Hello, my wife has gone into labour, we need an ambulance as soon as possible please."
"I am sorry sir, but all our ambulances are busy right now, you know, with people getting hurt in the storm. Is there anyway you could get her here in your car." I get up and rush to the door, I open it and see that my car has a tree on top of it and Joey's car has disappeared. I close the door and rush back over to Alice.
"No, my car has a tree on top of it! What can we do?" There is silence on the other end of the phone. All of a sudden, Ellis comes back.
"Okay, so there is no way of you getting here?" I shake my head but then realise that she can't see me, nice one Shane!
"No!"
"Okay, it will have to be a home birth. I will guide you through, put your phone on loudspeaker." I am a bit shocked by this but I do as she says. I place my phone on the floor and tap the loudspeaker button. "Hello, Alice?" She says.
"Hi." Alice replies between heavy breathing.
"Okay, I am nurse Ellis, your husband is going to have to deliver your baby."
"Babies," Alice corrects.
"What?"
"We are having twins!" She sort of shouts that one.
"Right. Okay. How many people are there in the room right now?"
"There are 4 of us including Alice." Jade speaks up.
"What are your names?"
"Joey and Jade." Joey answers her.
"Okay, I need you, Joey, to get towels, blankets and and bowl of luke warm water." Joey runs off to find this things Ellis has asked him.
"Jade, I need you to get behind Alice and support her. And Shane, I need you to keep your cool!" I laugh and start to join Alice in her breathing exercises. Why did this have to happen today? What if something goes wrong? I start panicking until I feel something take my hand. I look up and my eyes meet my wife's. Even though she is giving birth, she still looks like an angel. Joey comes back in with the towels, blankets and an empty washing up bowl. He hands me the towels and I place them under Alice's bottom half. Joey finally comes back with the warm water and Ellis speaks up once again.
"Okay, have you got everything?" She asks.
"Yes."
"Right, Shane, I need you to look and see if you can see a baby's head." I can feel myself getting redder but I look none the less but I can't see anything.
"I can't see anything."
"Okay, Alice, how close are you contractions?"
"Urm...about......1 minute...apart." She replies, obviously going through one right now.
"WAIT, something is happening." I say, not really knowing what is actually happening.
"Let me see," Jade says suddenly. She calls Joey over to take her place behind Alice and she rushes down to where I am sat. She looks and her face lights up.
"Okay, she has fully dilated." Joey and I look at Jade, amazed. "What? I trained to be a midwife a few years ago okay, I gave it up before I could qualify."
"Why don't you do this then?" I say moving away so Jade can sit where I am. But Alice, finally speaks up.
"NO!, Shane, I want you to do it. Please." She says, looking into my eyes. I nod and sit back in my place.
"Right, Alice, if you are fully dilated, then I want you to push right, now!" As Ellis says these words, Alice pushes, squeezing Joey's and Jade's hands. I finally see the head come through.
"I see it! I see the head!"
"Okay, Shane grab the head gently and gently pull." Jade says between breaths as Alice crushes her hand. I do as I am told. Jade comes over and sits next to me, just so I don't do anything wrong. After a few more pushes and pulls, the head in finally out and Jade tells me what to do next. She turns to Alice who is still holding on to Joey's hand and squeezing it. Jade takes over for this part so I wash my hands and then take my place next to Alice and give her my hand. She takes it willingly.
After a few more seconds, a loud cry is heard. I look over at Jade who is holding our first child! I let go of Alice's hand and go over to Jade.
"Do you want to cut the cord?" She asks handing me the scissors. I nod, taking them. I cut the cord, Jade ties it off and hands me my little girl.
We go through the same process with the other baby and everything is fine. When everything is done, the after birth has been born and the things were cleared away, I walk over to Alice who we have managed to get upstairs and onto the bed and I hand her our two beautiful children. A boy and girl. I can feel tears rolling down my face and I see that Alice is crying too. I sit on the bed next to her and we both just look down at our twins. Nurse Ellis said that they would send out a doctor tomorrow if possible so they can check on Alice and the kids.
"So, thought of any names?" Alice whispers, not wanting to wake them. I think hard but I really can't think of any right now. People say that you know the name as soon as you look at them but I just haven't got that talent.
"How about Josette and Jamie?" Alice whispers once more. I look down at the two sleeping babies and I think that those names suit them perfectly. Alice looks up at me and into my eyes, waiting for an answer. I look at her then back at the kids and then to her again and I just nod with a huge smile growing on my face. She smiles too and kisses me as Joey and Jade walk into the room. We both to look at them as they walk up to the other side of the bed and look down at Josette and Jamie.
"Aww they are so cute! What are their names?" Joey asks while putting his arm around Jade's waist.
"Josette and Jamie." I say smiling up at them.
"Thank you so much Jade for all that you did today. I don't know what would've happened if you guys weren't here." Alice says smiling and crying at the same time. I look out the window and the storm is getting worse. Looks like Joey and Jade might have to stay here tonight.
***A few hours later***
Alice and the kids are asleep in our bedroom, it is only 6pm. I don;t blame her though, she did just push two small people out of her lady part!
Any way, Joey, Jade and I are just chilling on the sofa. We are all tired too but we stay up one the less. I have already set up the spare room for them but thinking about it, we might have to turn that into a bedroom as the twins are boy and girl. But that can come later. Right now, Joey and I are vlogging and I can see that Jade is getting very bored.
"Guys I think I am going to hit the hay." She says and goes to get up.
"Okay Jade, goodnight." I say and carry on talking to my phone. Which must look weird. She starts walking to the stairs but then Joey shouts her name and she turns around again, not looking impressed.
"Jade, where is my goodnight kiss?" Joey say with a smile. Jade smiles back and runs back over to the sofa and gives him a kiss. This is a little bit awkward.
"Gurl, you have best back off. Joey is mine." I say in my shanaynay voice which I haven't done in a long time. She just laughs and carries on walking upstairs.
Joey and I stay up for another couple of hours until it gets to the point where I am struggling to keep my eyes open. Joey and I both agree it is time to go to bed. We turn off the TV and the light and then walk up the stairs. I can hear crying coming from my room. The kids must be up. I say goodnight to Joey and we walk into our separate rooms. As I open the door, I see Alice sat on the edge of the bed feeding Jamie. Obviously Jade has shown her how to do it. I close the door and Alice looks over to me and smiles. She is so beautiful even after she has given birth to two children. I can't believe I am a dad. This is all so surreal! I walk over to the bed, sit next to her and look at my sleeping son. Josette is fast asleep but I can tell she will be up in a few hours.
"How are you doing baby?" I ask Alice while wrapping my arms around her.
"I am doing just fine. Thank you Shane, for everything you did today." she smiles up at me and kisses my cheek. She finishes feeding Jamie so she burps him and then places him back in his cot which is in our room for now. I lay down and Alice joins me. She lays her head in my chest and I run my fingers through her hair. I couldn't be happier than I am right now. I have the perfect family. A perfect wife, two perfect kids and amazing friends and I wouldn't give any of this is up. I love them all and I wouldn't change a thing!
