I heard Dad and Olivia yelling at each other outside. I tried to cover my ears, but that did no good. I had hope though, because they always made up after a fight, letting us be somewhat of a family. They've been arguing over having a baby. Of course, I wasn't told that, but I figured it out pretty fast.
"No, I'm not! Because you're going to start f*#%ing drinking again Nick!" I heard Olivia scream outside. They were in the front yard, and she had just gotten home from an interview she was at. Dad and I were spending time with each other, before she wanted to talk to him.
"I can't do it anymore! This is exactly why I didn't want to marry again! Just get out! Leave!" Dad yelled, his voice seeming to shake the entire house.
"You asked me, Nick! Remember that?"
"Because I didn't want to f*#%ing lose you!"
"Maybe you should've though about that before you put a ring on my finger." Her voice became under a yell, but still loud enough to where I could hear it. I wasn't eavesdropping but it was hard not to listen.
"I did think about it!" They were out there for what seemed like hours. I couldn't take listening to the screaming anymore, so I went downstairs and into the living room, shoving my earbuds in my ear. I blasted my music, hoping to drown out the noise outside.

Dad and Olivia came in, tension still between them. Neither of them apologized for me hearing them this time, instead, they went up to the their room to argue even more I'm sure. She kept coming down with boxes and boxes of things. Was she moving? Were we moving? I was confused, so I went back up to my room. I passed Dad as I walked up there, his face looking upset. He came in my room shortly after, shutting the door.
"Hey Dad." I greeted with a smile. He gave me a small wave, sitting on my bed as I sat in my chair that hung from the ceiling. I swung around a couple times before he wanted my undivided attention.
"I'm sorry you've had to hear us arguing over the past few weeks," he started out rubbing the back of his neck," but there is something I do have to tell you."
"Okay..."
"You don't have to worry about calling her Mom anymore." Dad pulled her wedding ring out of his pocket. My jaw must've dropped to the floor.
"I will make your life a living hell!" Olivia screeched from downstairs. We both winced as the door slammed shut.
"Are you okay?" I asked him.
"Yeah, I'm alright sweetie. You don't need to worry about me. Point is, at least I'll have some more time with my baby girl." He opened his arms to me and I climbed into his lap, hugging him.
"I love you Dad."
"I love you too Brookie." We sat in a few moments of comfortable silence, before heading downstairs. Something honestly felt empty inside of me. Maybe it was because I actually had some sort of a Mom for a year and a few months since I was five years old. I guess it'll just be Dad and I once again.
