It has come. The war is here. No more days spent training, no more nights spent wondering, tossing and turning in dreamless, restless sleep. The war begins and as long as I stand i shall fight. As long as I live my people will not perish in vain. I will fight to protect not only my family, but everyone. I will not let the humans, among whom I once thought i belonged, be eradicated. I will not let the wolves, among whom my brother and i belong to, be decimated. I will not let the vampires, among whom my mate is one and of whom I help to rule, be enslaved. I will not let this world, the one I was raised in and the one I belong to now, be destroyed by some vindictive evil monsters. I will fight til my very last breath and maybe even then I'll keep going.

Pounding footsteps echoed as the thumping grew louder. Shouts and roars began to ring out across the clearing and the pit in my stomach grew. We all stood behind the walls waiting. Ryder and I would be the first to go down into battle. No one moved until we did. We hadn't seen Rose since I sent her off, but she had contacted us before everything on her end went radio silent. She said they had found out she was a mole, but before she disappeared she had been able to give us information.

Now we knew to watch out for the claws and to watch the shadows when the night creeped in. There were things lurking there that we would need to be wary of, enemies we weren't used to facing, ones we might not be prepared to fight if we stepped in their darkness.

If we wanted to win, we needed to be prepared for anything and everything. Our senses must be opened to everything. Our instincts needed to be at the forefront, ready to take over when and if we needed.

My heartbeat increases as the pounding closes in. I watch from atop the castle wall, perched on the ledge, Ryder adjacent to me.

Suddenly someone burst from the tree line into the clearing and as the archers raise their bows to shoot, I recognize the battered body of the girl below. Even through all the blood and bruising and all the dirt, I would know her anywhere.

"Rose!" On instinct I jump down, as the rest of the enemy broke through the tree line, and quickly make my way to Rose, who was stumbling and struggling to make it to the castle.

Two wolves charged at me, but at the last second I ducked, sticking my arms out and clothes lining them. Getting up I continue towards my brothers mate, grabbing her arm and pulling her close, I force us both down to the ground in a squat as bullets fly over our heads. I pull out my own gun and shoot the vampire that shot at us, standing back up, I pull Rose quickly towards the castle. Ryder had assailed downwards to the ground with me, but now he was atop the wall again, covering us. I stood us on a board and cut the rope next to us and we flew upwards toward the castle wall.

As our feet met with the stone of the wall people came rushing out.
"Take her to the hospital wing and tell the Doc to get ready for a whole bunch of bodies, I'm sending more help his way. Go!" I ordered some nurses as they took Rose to the hospital wing. Then I turned to Carl and told him to gather every one who had medical capabilities and take them down to the east wing and expand the hospital there. With enemies like this there were about to be a whole lot of casualties and I wanted to be prepared to save as many lives as we possibly could.

Looking around, the sun was starting to set and I had to do something fast.

"Ryd. I'm going down there, cover me from up here until I'm out near the edge of the clearing okay?"

I looked to my mother who was assisting from up on the wall.

"Mom! I'm going over to the edge of the clearing where the rocks start piling up. I need you to come with me. The sun is starting to set and we need to shed as much light as possible on this clearing.
