When did you start writing?
-Honestly? Not that long ago. About a year and a half ago, I couldn't this idea out of my head and I already read on Wattpad religiously so I figured why not try my hand at writing? It's proved to be one of my absolute favorite pass times now and a possible career path for the future.
Who is your favorite author and book?
-Eh, is it horrible to say that I don't have a favorite author or book? I have a lot of books that I love and cherish and will read over again even as time goes on but not a single favorite book or author.
What is your favorite genre?
-Romance, hands down! Any book I read has to have some sort of romance sub plot or else I tend to not get as into it. Now even as I say I love romance, I prefer books that are not entirely romance based. I love a good suspense/mystery or action romance book. I find that simply reading about two peoples journey to get together is so much more intriguing if they have struggles along the way that don't pertain necessarily to them which in turn, gives them more obstacles to work through to be with each other in the end, making it all more worth it. I think that's a big reason why I love forbidden romance so much!
What inspired you to write your book?
-Well, as I said in another question, I have been reading on Wattpad since I was in high school and read through every student/teacher romance I could on there and then read every other forbidden romance I could find until none of the good ones were left and I was stuck with all of these mediocre books that I didn't really want to read and I just couldn't find anything I really liked anymore. So I had an idea for a while of exactly what I would like to read in a book and then one day just decided to write it myself and get all of my fantasies out on the page. That is where a lot of my ideas come from is my fantasies or the fact that I am constantly day dreaming while I'm trying to sleep or at work and my mind just won't shut off lol
What is one thing you did that has made a significant difference in gaining more readers?
-Once I became more active on the threads and gained some friends on the site, I think that helped out a lot. For example, just recently, one of my friends that I made on the site before her book became incredibly popular just mentioned me and my book in one of her chapters and the next day I gained over 50-70 new followers and my reads increased by the thousands daily. Also joining awesome book clubs like this one is a great way that I met people, got good feedback and gained some loyal readers along the way J
If there was one thing you could do differently what would it be?
-I wasn't aware that making friends and appearances on the threads was truly helpful until I was already a good 15 chapters into my book. I was a no one on the site and it showed in the number of reads I was getting. If I would have known what an impact being active on the site could really do for my book, I would have done it from the beginning.
When you read a book, what draws you in? What turns you off?
-What draws me in is a well written book with unique and intriguing characters and story line. If it's a romance, then there has to be a sexy stud of a male MC to drive the story and romance forward. I have to fall in love with the characters and be able to relate or see myself in their shoes in one way or another in order to fall in love with the book.
What turns me off of a book is unoriginally. Now, I'll be the first to say that any cliché idea can be made original by the approach or characters that drive the story along but if I open up a book and there is that, 'oh I'm getting ready for the day and my alarm clock just went off and this is exactly what I look like in full detail', Then I'm out. That is such a huge turn off for me. Find a captivating way to open up your story and I'll be all over it.
Have you ever thought of having your book published? If so which route would you choose?
-Yes I have actually but I haven't looked too much into it. I think I would try the whole route of getting it published by a professional publishing company but after a while, if that didn't work, I would just self-publish. Just to say that I am a published writer lol
If there was one piece of advice you could give new and struggling writers?
-You have to love your idea. You have to be in love with your story, each of your characters and know where you are going with it. If you go into a story not knowing how it will end, then I think you will get lost along the way and lose your vision for the novel and the genuine excitement that you started off with. I think it's a very wise idea to have an outline of sorts, even if it's just a mental one. I have seen so many authors lose interests in their books or the story just falls off the rails because they had no intention of where to take the story. Always know where you want your plot line to go, how you want your characters to develop, even the back story for your MC's. If you go into the story blind to the end goal, then that will show through your writing. Also know that writing improves with each chapter so even if you aren't thrilled with how your first chapter turned out, don't stop. Keep writing and it will improve with each sentence you write. Trust me. J
And lastly, MAKE FRIENDS! Be as friendly and outgoing on this site as possible. Not only will you make some amazing friends and read some incredible stories along the way, but your story will flourish from it as well.
