"So, you haven't checked out any of your new neighbors yet?" Sam asked while unloading another box.

"I'll probably do that sometime this week, I just haven't found time." I answered, putting books on my shelf.

"What could you possibly be doing, Rome? You don't even have a job!" Tyler laughed.

"I do have a job Kevin, they called me this morning. You're looking at St. Taverns' new bartender." I said proudly.

They both hollered. "That's what's up man, you'll be making mad money! St. Taverns is really popular." Sam yelled.

"Bro, I'm getting paid $275 an hour just for making drinks. I'll make money for medical school in no time." I beamed.

I was offered a scholarship to Stanford University School of Medicine after I graduated from their college but there was still some expenses I needed to cover. Working the bar over the summer is more than enough time to gain the money along with what I saved. I could've asked my parents to pay, but it defeats the purpose of me doing things on my own. When I was living with my parents, I paid for my own car insurance and phone bill.

"So, does that mean we'll be off the hook for drinks...". Tyler trailed off.

"Forty percent off for friends and family." I smirked.

The two hollered once more.

"Shut up before the neighbors come over and help me finish these boxes." I chuckled.

*•*•*•*•*•*•*•*•*•*•*

"Man, I'm glad that's over." Tyler groaned when he plopped on my coach.

"You barely did anything but sit on my couch and eat my food." I said rolling my eyes.

"Yes, and it wore me out to walk all the way to the fridge, find something to eat, then go all the way back to the couch." He huffed.

"Whatever man." Sam chuckled while I shook my head.

Just then, we heard a knock on the door.

"You invited someone else over?" Asked Sam.

"No." I replied as went to the door and opened it.

I was then greeted with a tray of what appears to be chocolate chip cookies held by a beautiful dark skinned woman. She held a small smile, her dimples very evident. I couldn't help but stare at her smooth face where a kinky curl fell effortlessly on the side of her forehead.

"Well, hello there!"

I was brought back to reality with Tyler peaking behind me.

"Hi, my mom baked these cookies here for the new neighbor as a welcoming gift." She said with her deep, gentle voice.

"Thank you..." I trailed off for her name.

"Jessica. Moretti." She finished. Sounds Italian; that's interesting.

"Roman Martinez."

"Hi, Roman." Her eyes sparkled.

"Hi, Jessica." I smiled.

"Thanks so much Jessica, we'll take these off your hands." Sam says as he reached for the cookies.

"And since he's not going to introduce us," He nudged me. "I'm Sam, that's Tyler, and it looks like Roman likes you." He smirks.

She chuckled a bit while I pushed them back inside.

"Anyway, thanks for welcoming me, I definitely feel welcomed now." I said looking into her brown eyes. She looked away.

"You're welcome...for welcoming you. I'm glad you feel more welcomed." She said awkwardly. That's cute.

"I guess I'll see you around then?" She asked as her eyes wondered.

"You most definitely will." I smiled.

"Okay, bye."

"Bye."

She gave me one last look then walked off slowly. I watched her go, then closed the door.

"You go, boy." Tyler shouted with his mouth full.

"Shut up and pass me a cookie." I chuckled.

I'll certainly will be seeing Jessica more often.

Finally updated guys, woohoo!
Too many things going on this week alone with #AltonSterling and the shooting in Minnesota and the cops in Dallas. I'm tired of being tired and fearing for me and my family's life. Why are they killing us? And how long must it stay like this? Those policemen killed in Dallas shouldn't have died and I'm pissed that the killer is black. Then again, who can we trust? If you are a police officer doing your job the RIGHT way, you shouldn't be afraid to call out the officers you KNOW that aren't. Nothing will be solved unless the good police officers take action on the bad ones. We will not suffer on behalf of your cowardly behavior. If you took an oath to serve and protect others, that also means stopping those officers who stand in the way of that. #BLACKLIVESMATTER
