                 CH.1    INTRODUCTION

I sat on the hay bails in my barn. The hay poked me, but I didn't mind. I was used to it. I  lived in Texas, with my mom. My parents got divorced when I was six. I really didn't remember my dad. It was at least seven years ago. I only remember a few details about him. I remembered his very long brown beard, and his cheeky smile. My mother had dark brown curly hair with the most prettiest brown eyes. I looked mostly like my mom with the dark brown hair, and a beautiful smile.

I spent most of my time in my barn reading, or caring for my horse Pepper. Pepper was My favorite horse. He was a beautiful Appaloosa. I had other horses-Annie, Mollie, Sandy, and Flicker-but pepper was like my best friend. Pepper snorted.

"Hey Peps!" I cooed.

Pepper let out a big whinny. I smiled.

"Well Peps, I better go in before mom gets mad."

I scratched the star on Pepper's head, and kissed his nose.

"Bye!" I said.

I walked towards my house with a flower in my hand. I slowly opened the front door. I looked over to my mom who had fallen asleep on the sofa. I took the flower and set it nicely on my mom's pillow. I also wrote a note. The note said:

Hey mom. I'm sorry I was in the barn so long. I guess I just got lost in thought on the hay bails. Well I'll see ya soon!

                           love: Megan

I went to my room to study. I had a bunch of homework from school. I opened her text book, and started to read.

                  CH. 2    A SURPRISE

"So, Megan," Mom said. "I thought it would be a good thing for you to visit you're dad."

"Woah! WHAT? But I haven't seen him in seven years! He might of changed! He could be mean now!" I yelled.

"Megan! calm down. I know it sounds like a lot of pressure, but he really wants to see you. And trust me. he hasn't changed a bit."

I played with my nasty peas that were on my dinner plate. How could she just put that on me so quickly. I felt like I was going to cry.

"Why are you so upset about this?" Mom asked.

"Well, I want to see dad and all, but what about my horses. I Can't leave them."

"I will be here! I can take extra care of them."

"But mom! they won't be used to you! And I always sing to them EVERY day."

Yes. Its true. I sing to my horses. It might sound weird, but it actually calms them down. I usually like to sing country songs to them. I know I don't sound well in I sing, but they seem to enjoy it.

"They will be fine Megan. You are going to visit you're dad and that's it!"

"But mom! I-"

"No buts! now finish you're dinner and go to bed." Mom interrupted.

"okay... can I ask something?"

"Yes?"

"how long do I have to stay with dad?"

"Six months."

"oh."

REALLY???? Six MONTHS! What is she thinking! I can't live without pepper, or flicker, or Mollie, or sandy, or Annie! I just wanted to scream and yell at her, but I didn't, because I would probably get grounded. Just by the look on her face, I could tell she was not in a good mood. I decided just to shut up for the rest of dinner.
