Picture Perfect

Chapter 8

Mackenzie's POV

I stood in the studio. Skylar was meant to be here so that we could practice the duet but he was late. If Kate was there Skylar would be lectured but she was busy running and cleaning Chloe and Ellie's solos.

I had been planning this dance for weeks. It was a duet to I Know What You Did Last Summer. I not found a male partner to dance it with me. I had tried to re-choreograph it as a solo but I could never get it to look as good.

The first part was the part that Camila Cabello sings so the duet was focused the girl and her side of the story. I started to dance the dance. There were parts that I couldn't do without a partner so I skipped those parts.

He knows. Dirty secrets that I keep. Does he know, it's killing me?

The next bit and came on since Shawn Mendes came in and started singing as well so there was more partner work. There was a beautiful lift before the chorus started. It was a hip hop style chorus. There was a long section of I knows. When Camila sung I would spin and when Shawn sung my imaginary partner would spin. When I wasn't spinning I was frozen.

The second verse was focused more on my partner.

When she looked me in the eyes. They don't seem as bright.

When those lines come on my partner would grab my head and look my in the eyes and I would walk backwards and he would keep walking towards me.

And she's slipping away (I'm slipping away)

This was one of my favourite lines and during this part I was fall over his arm in a dip and then tumble over it.

The chorus came back on it we did a similar dance but it was slightly different to the first time. The bridge came on and it was about the male couldn't keep her close and she was slipping away. The chorus came on for a final time. The dance finished and the male could be looking right into my eyes.

Skylar was standing in the doorway and he clapped.

"You look like you need a partner," he said.

"There you are. We need to practice the duet."

"But it is boring. Can we try your duet?" he pleaded.

I nodded because the duet looked pretty good and Skylar and I both knew the choreography so I wasn't worried about it.

"Sure," I said.

I started to teach him the duet and it was quite different having an actual partner so I had to change some of the bits. Skylar is a really good partner and he picked it up quickly. It was the first time that I had to do a lift with him and it seemed to go well because it felt comfortable and he didn't drop me.

We got to the bridge and it was my favourite part but it was the most complex because there was so many parts.

"Hey, do you want to film this with me later?" I asked.

He nodded so I grabbed a piece of paper and scribbled my address on it.

"Come around 3. I'll be there and my friend to film it," I said.

Shawn was free and so he was willing to come and film another video. Skylar was late and I noticed that it was a common theme with him.

"Sorry, I'm late," he apologised.

"Shawn, this is Skylar, Skylar this is Shawn," I introduced.

Both boys nodded at each other and Shawn made sure that the camera was working. Skylar and I ran through the duet to make sure that it was perfect.
