It's pretty late and we just woke up. It took me forever to light my lantern in the deep darkness of the night. John is still kinda sleepy somehow, which really surprises me. Before we will continue our journey, we eat our meals. I can't remember ever eating something this bad before though. I should have kept in mind that fresh fruit doesn't taste fresh anymore after a day in the burning sun. After John is finally done eating, he gets up and we continue walking. It's not easy to walk like this in the dark. We should have chosen another time to sleep so we could continue in bright daylight. Luckily it won't be dark for long. It's 3 am and the sun usually rises around 4 at this time of the year.
After a little bit of walking, John decides to sing while the sun is rising. I honestly never thought anyone would ever do that, since it's highly annoying when you walk past a house. However, nobody will be annoyed here since there are no houses out here. As we move on, the nature slowly turns into a dense forest of big trees and many insects. I never thought that I would ever get to this part of the kingdom again. I have never really liked forests so I would usually come up with any excuse to walk around it. Still it is not too bad with the company of my friend. In the distance we see an old lady, sitting next to the road. I really want to ask if everything is alright, but John thinks it's another attraction for a group of robbers to take the things we have with us. I have always been more the kind of person that doesn't want to see the bad in people. That is another reason why it is so good to have John with me, he is more of a realist and sees the actual dangers. We walk past the old lady and act like we can't hear her. Especially since we saw other people moving in the forest behind her.
As the clock reaches 12:45, we decide to eat some lunch. it's not a really special lunch, but it takes the hunger away and lights the mood up a little. As the walk continues we keep singing and coming up with songs we didn't listen to in years. It's almost like we're children again, just living for the moment and not thinking about tomorrow. The memories are coming back slowly and we start talking about how we used to run from a group of kids when we were younger. They always wanted trouble and we were easy targets. Especially since we both were not the best fighters. Then we remembered the pact that we made together to not be like them ever. It's funny how the worst memories cause the biggest bonds between people somehow. It's always those memories that nobody will ever forget and those times where you see someone's true colours.
It's getting close to sunset again and we decide to build camp in the woods. John is getting wood in the forest for a fire while I build an improvised tent to sleep in. As the big wooden tent is almost done, John comes back with a lot of logs and some kind of moss. I don't really know what the moss is for so I ask him. He gives me a stupid look and says: "How do you plan to light a log without tinder?". I really don't have much knowledge on things like starting fires, as you might have noticed. After a good night around the fire, we decide to get some rest again. We close our front opening off with a branch full of green to be a little bit hidden from the creatures of the night.
