(The picture up there is dean, Alex's uncle.)

"Wow, it's been exactly one year since the accident.." I thought to myself. I place my hand on the photograph in front of me. "I miss you, mom. I hope you're doing great up there." I say just above a whisper. I felt the tears sneaking up on me, causing a stinging, tickling sensation in my nose. After a split second, the tears raced along my cheeks. I wiped them away with my arm, and sat down on the side of my bed. Fighting my thoughts, I didn't want to think back to the night it all happend. I didn't want to think about the night my life had changed. I give in, letting my thoughts take over my mind.

FLASHBACK
"You know, this would look great on you!" My friend Jasmine stated. She held the fabric against my body and admired the way it would look. Her face lit with excitement after she found a couple accessories to go with it. "These too! Oh, oh and this one!" She beamed. Grabbing almost everything she saw in front of her. We both started laughing at her sudden actions, and walked to the dressing rooms. "Here, take these, and try them on. I'm gonna go find some more skinny jeans." She said, handing me several outfits. "Jasmine, I don't need this much clothes. When I said lets go to the mall, I meant like in the movies when the best friends walk around with styrofoam cups, and gossip about unnecessary things." I stated, with a hint of sarcasm. "We'll do that later. Right now, just go try those on. I tried to pick the ones that fit your butt the most. You know, one day, you'll have to show it off sooner or later. Now that you're 18, that time is now. So, hurry and try those on while I pick more jeans, and shirts." She said, with a smile. "Are you sure?" I asked, not wanting to spend so much on clothes that I might not even wear. Oh, who am I kidding, yes I will. Still, I just don't like people buying things for me. "Alex, get your butt in that dressing room, now." She said, pushing me to the empty room. After closing the door, and making sure it was locked, I turned around to the many items in front of me. Once I spotted some denim skinny jeans, I went for those, and some floral crop tops that had long sleeves. "This girl knows what I like!" I thought to myself, smiling. Before I tried the jeans, I turned in the mirror examining my body. My eyes went straight to my butt. I did a little dance, and started laughing at how I looked. After I tried everything on, I put the hangers on the right materials, satisfied with how they all fit. "So?" She asked, with a smile. "Perfect!" I stated, with a silly grin. We laughed, and payed for everything we had bought. After a few hours, we were finally done, and went to the food palace. I ordered chicken strips, with fries, and she ordered popcorn chicken with tater tots. We finally sat our things down, and then took our seats. "Ahh, the feeling of relaxation is taking over my body." She said, anxiously digging into her food. I giggled at her sudden actions, and dug into my food, also. We started talking about casual things until my phone started ringing. "Hello?" I asked through the receiver. "Alex! Come quick! Something's wrong with your mom!" My dad shouted through the phone. I harshly swallowed what was in my mouth, and hung up quickly. "Jasmine, c'mon, we gotta go." I hurried and collected my things, and started to walk towards the doors leaving Jasmine behind. My mind started racing with all the possibilities that could have or could be happening right now. I grab my car key and unlock the car, with Jasmine following close behind, out of breath. Once everything was inside, I started the car, and sped out of the parking lot. "Alex! Slow down! What's going on?" Jasmine asked, concerned. "I don't know, I got a weird call from my dad saying something is wrong with my mom." I said, trying to dodge any traffic. Which failed as I got stopped at a red light. "Ugh! This is taking forever!" I shouted, hitting my hand against the steering wheel. My phone started ringing again, and this time Jasmine picked up. "Put it on speaker!" I shouted, facing the road again. I calmed down a little bit once the light turned green. "Hello? Mrs.martinez? This is your family doctor. I've called with some terrible news. Your parents have been in a horrible accid-" I slammed on the breaks, causing the phone to fly somewhere else. I started panicking, trying to look for my phone but I couldn't find it. Wait, that was my family doctor. I started up the accelerator and raced all the way to the hospital. After a few short minutes, we approached the hospital doors, and ran inside. "Yes, I'm looking for Doctor Callger." I asked, instead of stated to the nurse with a dumbfounded expression written all over her face. "Um- he- he's in room 307." She said, and looked down. Jasmine and I took off finding all the rooms in the 200's. After a few minutes we found the room, and saw through the window, two patients. Not patients, but my parents! I felt like having a break down, but remained myself, trying to find the doctor. He appeared around the corner with many other nurses. "Alex? I'm so sorry.. We're trying everything." He said, giving a sympathetic look. "Doctor, both patients have stopped breathing." The nurse said, running back inside the room. I looked at the room my parents were in, and froze. Jasmine came and hugged me, but everything was just a blur. It felt like it was a slow motion dream. I didn't even realize I was crying. Looking around me, Jasmine was crying also, while nurses kept filling the room. Each playing a part to keep my parents alive. All I did was blink, and the next thing I hear is the long beep that declares both of my parents dead. I felt light headed, and soon enough, everything just blacked out.

END OF FLASHBACK

Here I was, crying again. To this day, I still fill empty. Jasmine and I aren't friends anymore, because after a few weeks, I just wanted to be alone. She moved on, and here I am, still crying. I blowed my nose into the tissue, and walked to the bathroom to wash my face. After taking in long breaths, and calming myself down, my doorbell rang. For a minute I thought I was just hearing things, until it rang a couple more times. I glanced at myself in the mirror, and fixed myself up a little bit. I walked downstairs, and approached the door. Once I opened it, I stood there starring at a man, who was starring back, with a smile. I zoomed back into reality, and tried to speak, but I couldn't. I felt stuck. "Alex? Alex Martinez?" The man asked. I still couldn't speak, so I just nodded my head. "May I come in?" He asked, holding a black box. Without thinking, I stepped aside. Really Alex? He could be a serial killer and the gun could be in the black box! You retard. "It's so nice to finally meet you. I would've gone to the funeral, but I was extremely busy. I'm so sorry for your loss." The man said, all in one breath. Alex, say something! "Who are you?" Was all I managed to say. "I'm your mothers brother." He said, smiling. "If you don't believe me, I brought this box for you. It has all of our pictures as kids. Your mother and I of course." He said opening the box. "I'm sorry, but my mother always told me she didn't have any other siblings." I said kind of rudely. For a moment, I saw his smile fade and be replaced with a hurt expression. He looked up at me, and gave a small smile. "I figured. My name is Kim soon hyun. She and I had a rough past. After she turned 19, she moved out. Never to be heard from again. I tried to keep contact with her, but she would just ignore me. After the funeral my cousin told me about you. At first, I was surprised. I also didn't believe it. I was shocked, and once I heard, I had to come see you. Once I was done with work, I arranged my schedule to come down here. I'm actually glad I did. You're very beautiful. You look just like my sister. You even have her smile." He said, looking at me. "I'm here to ask if you would like to live with me. I know you're 18, but I figured you would like to move in and get out of this city. Or even out of this house." I felt relived for a few seconds. "That sounds great, I could use a break, but I can't just leave this house. It has so many memories. I wouldn't feel comfortable letting other people move in, once I move out." I stated. "I figured you'd say that. Well, I'm really sorry about your loss. I know you lost your mom, but I also lost my sister. I'm staying at a hotel for 3 days. If you change your mind, don't ever hesitate to call me." He said, writing down his number. He stood up, and handed me the box full of pictures. "Please change your mind, Alex. It's not healthy for you to live like this." He said, planting a kiss on my forehead, and walking to the door. "Thank you." I said, before he could walk out. "Anytime." He said, smiling, and walking out the door. Once he left, I didn't hesitate to open the box. There were multiple pictures of my mom, and her other siblings. I would stop once in a while and laugh at some of the baby photos of my mom. She was so pretty, and small. Once I finished looking at all the photos, I looked at the number. "I really do need to get out of this place. Plus, you can start fresh, meet new people, and move on." The voice inside my head said, trying to persuade me. "It would be great to start over." The other voice said. "You really do need to get out of this place. Look at you, you're hearing three different voices." The third voice said. I shake my thoughts away, and realize how silly this was. If my voices say it's a good thing, then I should try it out, right? I mean... Right?
