The Coffee Nook was always humming with activity, especially on Saturday mornings. All the workers had to work like a well oiled machine in order to avoid things getting overwhelming. Of course, there were our regulars, like David who always gets a certain drink depending on the day of the week, and today was his three shots of espresso and one shot of creamer, Vanessa came in and sat in a secluded corner on weekends to work on poetry, and Audrey always came in on Mondays, Thursdays, and Sundays to get her fiance a cup of coffee. They were always my favorite because when things weren't as crazy as they are today, they would tell me stories about how their day went, or what their life was like at the moment. Even if it was boring, I still was very interested to listen to it, for it was nice to hear how other people were living their own lives.

Like Vanessa, who once read to me a poem while I prepared her hot chocolate to get my opinion on it. "Lies can be beautiful, but when they flow from your lips, hot wax drips off the candle and onto my skin. I can cradle flaws, but when they are broken glass, my blood becomes your sin." She called it "Agony", claiming to have wrote it after she found out that her ex was cheating on her because she wasn't interesting enough. I may see her as a friend, but I know any guy or girl who would choose to be with her is lucky to have such a loyal girlfriend.

David always new how to make everyone laugh, having just a notorious sense of humor. And Audrey was so shy and sweet, going out of her way for her fiance even though he offered to get his own coffee himself, but she always insisted because there was nothing else that would convince herself to get out of the house.

When your life seems so bland and boring to yourself, to someone else it may hold interest. This girl Lisa used to come in at least once a week, complaining that she moved too much, ironically before her mother had them move again a year after they had just moved into town. "I am so sick of it," she said in her last two weeks "it feels like all I ever do is move anymore." Although I sympathized with her, to me, being able to see different places sounded exciting to me, because quite frankly, I don't think I will ever leave this town any time soon.

And that's okay.

Someone whistled to me nearby the brewer right as I finished handing a customer back her change. "Have a nice day," I said giving her a smile as she tossed her coins carelessly into her purse and her dollar bills neatly into her wallet. The smile was returned and I walked away as she thanked me, heading over to Shawn Walker who stood with his hands on his head. When I approached him, he dropped his hands down to his shoulders, letting out a sigh.

"I need to take a pee break man," he said, looking around me at the crowd packed in the coffee shop. "Wait for this coffee to finish brewing, and hand it to Mandy." Before I could say a word, he patted me on the shoulder, winking at me as he clicked his tongue, pointing at me with finger guns. "Thanks pal, I owe you one." And then he headed for the restroom like his life depended on it, muttering something incoherent under his breath.

Standing there with my lips pulled in a tight line, I placed my hands on my hips, staring down at the coffee pot as the steaming liquid poured into it. Man, I can barely contain my excitement. As the deep brown caffeinated drink continued to trickle into the pot, gradually filling it up, I looked over my shoulder and then checked the time on my watch.

11:30

Good. I only have twenty more minutes of this before I can return home and relaxed for at least half an hour before I have to head down to the Lin's Family Diner till 6:15.

Once the coffee spit out the remaining hot water, I waited till it shrunk to a drip before grabbing the handle and walking two feet over to Mandy Devin, who looked at me in the corner of her eyes before completely turning her head, looking a little startled. I had snuck up on her. Splaying her fingers upon her chest, she let out a quick sigh, seeing the pot I held in my hands. "You scared me Joey," she said, grabbing the coffee pot from my possession. "Warn a lady next time." I chuckled, heading back to the cash register where Olivia stood, who was manning my station from the second Shawn called me over.
