*INJURY AU*
I've always been prone to disaster but I never thought it would affect others. That is, until I learned about soulmates in sixth grade. "When you wake up one day with a new bruise or cut that you didn't have before it's most likely from your soulmate. We are connected through the strings of fate and any injury that befalls you also goes to your soulmate," Mrs. Harris had told me and my classmates. Nobody really understood what she meant until a few months later. It had been a normal day, sleeping in the morning classes, waking up before lunch, and then messing around in the cafeteria with friends. Then out of nowhere I get an immense pain in my arm. It feels like something is twisting my bones and breaking my arm in half. A teacher grabbed me and took me to the nurse's office where she told me I'd broken my arm. But it wasn't me! I didn't do anything but eat a sandwich!
It was all my stupid soulmates 'a fault, she was running back to class when she fell down the stairs and broke it. I about five minutes later, being escorted into the office like I had been. When she saw me I could tell she was trying to figure out what had happened to me and me, a really stupid sixth grade boy, glared back at her with as much menace as I could. So, she looked away and waited for her mom to get there and pick her up to take her to fix her arm. I wasn't sure if that would also fix my arm but I guessed I'd need a cast too.
After ten minutes of no talked she finally let out an angry sigh and asked me, "what happened to you."
I was still angry at her for breaking my arm so I snarled back, "what do you think happened? You broke your arm and broke mine too!!"
She seemed shocked as if she hadn't realized before that it was the same arm that we broke and at the same time. "I'm sorry, I had tripped down the stairs. I-i didn't mean to break it," her eyes were cast down and I heard her voice wobble a bit at the end.
I couldn't hold my anger any longer as I watched her face squeeze up tight and I could almost feel the sob building in my chest too. To stop her from crying I reached over and took her good hand in mine. But only cause she was about to cry and I didn't want to see it. That's the only reason, it's not like I thought this dumb girl was cute or anything!
She looked up in surprise and I looked away with a blush crawling onto my cheeks. "I'm only doing this so you won't cry," I said with annoyance. She smiled a huge dorky smile and nodded at me then weaved our fingers closer together.
We wouldn't stop holding hands even though we had to sit across from each other to do it. And when her mom came to take her to get her cast she also brought me and wouldn't stop looking in the mirror back at us then looking away with a smile.
That was twelve years ago. Today my soulmate, Rose, and I were sporting big black bruises on our legs because I had gotten too drunk at my party and tripped onto a table edge. But nobody could see them beneath her flowing white dress, all decorated with pearls, and my fitted black suit. The only injuries showing were the little ear piercings in our ears because she just *had* to get her ears pierced before our big day.
I didn't mind, because when I finally slid that tiny silver ring onto her finger and she the same to me I didn't care about anything in the world but her. But then as we were walking down the aisle to start the reception dinner she tripped over her own dress and fell down onto her arm and broke it. Just like how we met, she broke my arm too. Again. But I wouldn't want it any other way.
