At 3.30pm, the girls and I get ready to go to Mom and Dad's place. I put a pair of jeans on them and a jumper on them. I pick up the backpack and put it on. "Let's go girls. I don't want to be late for the sunset at Harlow's Passage."
The girls walk to the door. I open the door for them. I lock the front door and walk with the girls to the car. I put them in their seat and buckle them in. I put the backpack on the floor. I walk to the driver's side of the car and climb in. I drive straight to my parents place.
When I get to their place I park the car in the driveway. I step out of the car and move toward the twins. I pick the backpack up and put it on. I unbuckle the twins and they step out of the car.
They hold my hand as we walk to the house.
Mom opens the front door and she smiles. "What are you doing here?"
I hug her. "I wanted to surprise Dad and you." I take the backpack off and put it on the ground. "I made these for you." I look at the house. "How is Dad?"
Her face pales a bit. "He's not feeling great today. He was put on new medication and it has him feeling drowsy. I'm sure he would love to see you. I'll keep the girls company while you see him."
I enter the house and make my way to the bedroom. I knock on the door before I open it. "Dad." I whisper.
He sits up in the bed. "Hey, sweetheart. You chose a crappy day to visit your old man." He pats the bed beside him and I run over to him.
I lie on the bed next to him like I did as a little girl.
It was the middle of the night when I had a nightmare and it scared me. I tip-toed to my parent's bedroom. I opened the door and entered the room.
Dad opened his eyes and looked at me. "What's wrong, princess?"
I looked at the ground. "I had a nightmare. I'm scared."
Dad pulled the blanket up. "You can sleep in here tonight."
I ran to the bed and climbed in beside them.
I felt safe that night.
I look at Dad and smile. "Do you remember all the nights I spent in here with Mom and you when I was growing?"
Dad nods. "It feels like it was just yesterday that you were doing that. I wish that the time can stand still for a while. So, I can enjoy everything that I'm going to miss when I pass away."
I hug him. "I don't want to think about life without you in it, Dad. It hurts too much. I feel like my heart is going to be torn in two."
Dad kisses my head. "I'm hoping that you will meet someone before that happens. You'll need someone beside you when I go. This person has be strong and willing to do everything to help you through it. Most of all the guy needs to meet the approval of both your brother and I."
I shake my head. "I don't think a guy can be approved by the two of you. I know you will both make the guy jump through hoops before he can even take me out on a first date."
Dad laughs. "You're right. He will have to jump through hoops. Have you spoken to Johnny yet?"
"He's back in town with his partner. I have to call him tomorrow to help me with shooting. I'm nervous about meeting him."
Dad hugs me. He whispers. "You don't need to be afraid of Ethan. He's like a huge teddy. You're going to love him. The family does."
I look at the door to the bedroom. "I made scones this afternoon with Cristina."
Dad shakes his head. "I hope she didn't burn your kitchen."
I laugh. "No, but we had a flour fight after I told her she had wrinkles. She didn't like hearing that much."
The door to the bedroom opens and Mom enters the room with a scone on the plate for dad. She looks at him. "You need to eat something."
He takes the plate from Mom and he bites into it. "Do you want to stay for dinner, Laken?"
"Actually, the girls and I are heading to Harlow's Passage. We're going to watch the sunset."
"I hope you brought warmer clothes for the twins."
"They have jeans and jumper on. I even packed a jacket for them. I had better get going. I don't want to miss the sunset."

I pull the car into the parking lot at Harlow's Passage. Next to the parking lot is a park and short walk to the lake. I look at the time.
We have enough time to play at the park.
I hold the girls hands as we cross the parking lot to the park. I see a few cars around and people jogging. I put the girls into the swings and I push them.
"Higher," Sophie yells.
I push her higher.
My phone vibrates. I pull it out of pocket and I see a message. I click on it and see that it's from my brother.
Johnny: I'll be at yours around 8?
Me: Sounds good. The girls and I are at Harlow's Passage. It's beautiful.
Johnny: I'm glad you like it.
I put my phone back into my pocket. I start to get a weird feeling about being here. I scan the area as I feel eyes on me. I try to shake the feeling off as I take the girls to the lake. I pull out a picnic rug and throw it on the sand. "Are you ready to see the sunset?""Yes," the girls yell.
I see couples lying together on their rugs.
I wish I had that.
I turn back to the water and watch the sun set behind the lake. I point to the different colours of the sun and I tell the girls the colours that I can see.
The air turns cold as the sun is gone. I pick up the picnic rug and I put it in the back. I lift the girls up and carry them to the car.
As I walk through the bushes I start to get a bad feeling. I hear a twig snap. "Girls, we have to run."
I run to the car and put them in their car seats. I buckle them up and then I lock the door and move to the driver's seat. I open the small box I have under the seat and I pull my gun out. I put the silencer onto the gun and un-clip the safety. I point the gun towards the bush. I fire into the bush three times before I throw the gun back into the box. I climb into the car.
My phone vibrates.
I pull it out of my pocket.
Unknown: Wrong guy, bitch.I knew he was there. He is continuing the cat and mouse game with me and I'm sick of it.
I look into the bush and see a guy with sandy blonde hair and blue eyes step out of the bush holding his shoulder.
I shot someone.
I speed away from the scene.
I hope the guy didn't see me. I won't ever forget the guys face.
