"Dom?"

"Yes?"

I wiggled and raised my chin to look up at him. It was two days after I'd come home and we were laying in his tree house, tangled together under the blankets. It was cold as hell and we had to stick as close to each other as we could to keep warm. Or just me, in fact. I bet Dominic could lie here in just his boxers and he still wouldn't be cold.

"Where are we?" I asked, meeting his eyes.

His brows furrowed as one corner of his lips tipped up.

"In my yard, in your favorite tree house in the world." He replied. "Why? Sudden gap in memory?"

"No, it's not that." I shook my head, the hair at the top of my head tickling his chin. "I mean where... What are we?"

He eyed me for a moment and I searched his eyes for any sign of understanding.

"The two of us." I added, hoping it would make it clear for him and prevent me from further stammering.

I saw the moment he got my meaning because his eyes widened slightly before softening and focusing back on mine. He didn't answer right away and I didn't pry, wanting to give him time to think.

"And what do you think we are?" he said after a while.

My shoulders sank. A question for a question. Just great.

"Well, I wouldn't be asking if I knew, would I?"

His low chuckle fanned my cheek, causing the loose hair there to stir.

"True."

He fell silent after that and my heart started beating faster for no reason. I shouldn't be so stressed out about his answer, should I?

"We can be whatever you want us to be." Dominic stated finally. "Whatever we want to be."

"Thank you, Mr. Obvious." I joked. "Now we can be Batman and Robin."

He glanced at me.

"Who is Batman and who is Robin?"

"I'm Batman, duh. I am the cooler one and you are my sidekick."

"And you drive like crazy."

I punched his arm but grinned. He was never going to let that one go.

"Seriously, though." I said, the smile fading from my face. "Did you know that back home my parents asked if I had a boyfriend?"

I looked at him sideways, wanting to see his reaction. I haven't told him I saw the messages on my phone and he hasn't told me he sent them, either. I doubted the fact was ever going to resurface, but it sort of became the source of this conversation. I didn't know what to make of us since my birthday and I wanted to know, even if a part of me was afraid of hearing the answer.

Dominic's face remained blank, but I felt how his body tensed next to mine.

"Really?"

"Yes." I bit back the smile threatening to pull at my lips at his attempt to seem stoic.

He didn't reply, which surprised me. He was more of an insistent type, never letting some things go untouched. And I suspected it to be one of those things.

"Aren't you asking what I told them?"

"I don't have to." He replied. "I already know what you told them."

"And what would that be?" I pushed up on my elbow, positioning myself so that I could look at him without having to crane my neck.

His eyes were closed and his face relaxed when I faced him.
