Alone. Weak, abandoned, and alone. That's all I could feel right now.

They banished me from the village. Everyone knew I had the Red Death, and they now know that it was possible to catch it, even if they didn't have direct contact with any of the hosts.

(Flashback to three days ago...)

I just laid there. I wasn't sure where I was. I was clearly aware of what was going on, but I didn't have the will to continue to wake up. Remembering how ill I was, there really was no point in living. I was going to die soon, anyways. In the back of my head, a familiar voice echoed.

'You need to wake up Astra,' it called to me. 'You must gain the will to journey on, and life will reward you.' I knew exactly who it was; only one person has ever called me by that name.

I eventually took the voice's advice, gathering what little strength, and my eyes fluttered open. I gazed around the room. There were vials of varied colors of liquid, what seemed to be surgical tools, and many beds in multiple rows. It reeked of medicine in the room I was in. Realization came to me that I was in the village health clinic.

Father must have brought me here when he saw me pass out, I thought to myself. Even though my family knew I hated the clinic, I am glad that they were concerned about me. When I tried to sit up, I felt a strong hand land on my shoulder and force me back into a lying position. I looked up to see Dr. Kelly.

"You must rest, Myra," he said in his deep, monotone voice. Looking up at him, I noticed he was quite a bit taller than me; nearly a foot and a half, at least. Then again, he was a great deal older than me. I believe 19 years older, to be precise. Dr. Kelly continued on.

"The village council and your father are in The House right now, deciding what to do with you. Everyone quickly heard through gossip that you have the Red Death."

I shuddered at his words. The House is where the village council members meet up to discuss punishment for thieves and criminals passing through.

"Does this mean...the Red Death is going to kill me?" I asked, very frightened. I was only 15, and I didn't want to die due to this gruesome of a death! Dr. Kelly turned away from sharpening his operating scalpels and gave me a look full of sympathy.

" We are unsure. However, out of the few patients who got the disease, all the cases ended in...fatality." I laid on the bed in shock. Is this really how I was meant to die?

I was broken from my thoughts when I heard the door burst open. I saw my siblings running in my direction, but were halted by Father. Their cheeks were tear-stained, with eyes red and puffy. They looked to have been crying for some time. Father looked about the same, but with more of a guilt-stricken expression. Behind them came in three members of the village council. I feared the worse was about to happen.

"Myra Elizabeth Smith," the head council member bellowed. "Due to you being the only living host in the village with the Red Death, there has been an unanimous vote: these people of the council have made the decision to banish you from this village, to prevent the further spread of infection. We will provide you with a horse and a flask of water, but nothing else. Your departure is in one hour."

(End of flashback)

Even though the horse they gave me was old and near death as well, the council members stayed true to their word. The horse ended up dying on the second day, and I ran out of liquid refreshment just today, I pursued on. My heart and soul was filled with DETERMINATION to find someone that could possibly help me cure my illness. By the day, it got more difficult to breath, and I occasionally got into horrid coughing fits. After the one I just had, I knew I was in bad condition; I had began to cough up blood.

I eventually found myself wandering in a field, near the base of a mountain. As I got closer, I saw a wooden sign that read "Mt. Ebott". That must be the name of the mountain, I wondered. Off to the side of Mt. Ebott, I saw grey smoke rising into the sky.

There must be someone living on the other side, burning firewood! I thought joyously. I lifted my dirtied work dress and apron, that I was still wearing from three days ago, and hustled as quickly as possible to make it to whoever was on the other side of the mountain. Unfortunately, that was a bad move on my part. I began to lose my breath after a few yards, causing me to pant like crazy. After getting a sharp pain in my lungs, I keeled over in another hacking episode. On my knees, I felt a warm substance come up my esophagus and out my mouth and nostrils. The brownish-green grass became splattered with red. I couldn't even stop to catch my breath. I soon felt a similar, warm liquid drip down my face. I started to see red. I reached my hand to my face and touched it it with my fingertips. When I pulled my hand away, I saw that the liquid was my blood, welling from my tear ducts.

I soon began to feel very weary, so I gently laid my back in a part of the grass that wasn't covered in my bodily fluids. My coughing fit had stopped as I gazed up at the sky. Knowing I was about to die, I wanted the beautiful sun setting over Mt. Ebott to be the last event I see in my life time. The white tufts of cloud in the sky began to disappear, and I could faintly see the moon and even some constellations. While trying to make out Libra, my vision began to blur, once more.

My chest heaved a few times before my lungs refused to take in anymore air. Before i closed my eyes, I would've sworn that, in my peripheral vision, i saw a shadowy figure, in my direction.
