It's been a few days since I woke and found myself with a new father and life. However, he did not allow me to leave the room I awoke in. I was unsure why, but decided not to question or push it. He would visit me periodically throughout each day, either coming to bring me my meals, run some tests, or teach me to speak his language. Considering there were the same amount of symbols as there are in the English alphabet, I caught on fairly quickly, but not to the point where I could understand his fluent speaking. I usually spent my down time flying around the room to get used to my wings, practice writing and speaking Wing Dings, or just plain rest.
At the moment, I just lay on the cold operating table that I use as a bed. It may sound uncomfortable, but Father did bring me a fuzzy, wool blanket, so I am grateful. I stare up at the ceiling, thinking about what little he has said about of his other projects. I obviously had the urge to meet them, but I knew I had to stay patient. I'm sure Father will introduce me to them in time...
I was brought back to reality by the sound of the giant, steel door of my room creaking open. I glanced over to see Father coming into the room, holding his clipboard, as usual. I was about to ask him why he had come so late for testing today, but by the way he walked, and how he clutched onto the wooden objet on his hand, could tell he was in a foul mood, so I kept quiet. I could faintly see a red light flickering on and off in one of the eye holes in the mask, and a blue one in the other. The two pupil-like lights were in perfect sync. When I saw Father stop by my bedside, I quickly scrambled to sit up, not wanting to leave him waiting.
'Today,' he started. I could already hear the bitterness and irritation in his "voice". 'We will be
working on your healing magic.' When I heard those last two words, I plastered a confused look on my pale face and raised an eyebrow at him."Wait...I can heal people?!" I asked, sounding pretty idiotic. Father sighed before continuing.
'Yes, Astra...all monsters can. However, since you are still half human, I'm a bit unsure on whether it will work or not. For a human to master this magic, they would need to have the kindness trait in their soul, which is what your soul COMPLETELY revolves around. So, since you have the necessary trait and monster in you, it is most likely that it should work.' I grabbed the edge of the icy metal table I called a bed, hunching over slightly and looking up at him through my silver bangs that angles over my eyes.
"Alright. Well...what is there for me to h-" I was cut off by him swiftly grabbing my hand and tugging me off my "bed". He was leading me towards the door. "Where are we going, Father?!" I asked, becoming instantly worried when I noticed he was in a big rush to get me somewhere else.
He sighed, dropping my hand as to grab a rusted, bronze key from his pocket to unlock the door. 'Another experiment of mine, S-104... an assistant of mine and I...injected its soul with one of the human traits...DETERMINATION, to be exact. The procedure didn't go accordingly to plan, and now...104 is healing poorly. It is in critical condition, and this would be a great starting point for you on healing.'
After fumbling around with the key for a while, Father finally managed to open the door. He was practically dragging me down a long, dark hallway, the only source of light coming from the golden illumination of my horn. We passed many rooms, almost all of the doors shut. Once we finally reached the end of the hallway, Father stopped, rather abruptly, causing me to accidentally ran into his back. He either didn't seem to notice, or he just didn't care. Quickly, he undid the lock, which didn't require any sort of key, and burst through the door. Before I even entered the room, I could hear the pleading sobs of whoever was in there. I started to become scared, but still ran through the doorframe.
The room was much similar to mine, but much more...empty. There was no desk or machines, or even a bathroom, just a sheetless medical table. On that table laid a big-bones skeleton. It had a rounded skull, and a smile that seemed to have been forced so much, that it became permanent. Even though it what stripped of skin, I could see the bags under its eye sockets, making me think that this skelly most definitely has insomnia, if you could see wrinkles on its skull. There was another skeleton in the room, who was holding on to dear life to the first skeleton. This one looked much different; it had longer bones with a much more slender look to them. Even its skull was long and thin, the facial features containing very high cheekbones and quite narrow, vertical sockets instead of the other's large, rounded ones. The big-boned skelly had many large cracks on and near its right socket, parts of skull looking like it could just break off at any second. It seemed to be unconscious. I assumed this was S-104.
