Bucky's PoV

I walked "home" from school today with Steve. Even though it was October, it was actually really warm. San Fransisco has a habit of doing that, a little chilly in the spring and warm in the fall. California has a weird climate. I moved from Brooklyn when I was ten, and I haven't seen snow since then. I forgot the definition of snow. I looked down at Steve's backpack and it was zipped open enough that a sketch book was peeking out. I grabbed it and started flipping through it.

"Hey!" Steve shouted. I continued flipping though it. There were many detailed sketches of his friends, the city skyline, street corners, and mostly of me. I looked back at Steve. He was hiding his face in his hands, embarrassed.

"What are you embarrassed about?" I asked. "These are really good! Like, really good. You should post these on Pintrest or Tumblr or something like that!"

"Ok, number one, the only people I see on Pintrest are moms and young adult woman trying to be crafty. Number two, Tumblr is meant to be the base for fandoms," he retaliated. "Plus, aren't you weirded out that I draw you without you knowing?"

"No, I'm not and where else are you going to share your art? It's amazing and you need to share it somewhere. I suggest Pintrest, I mean, no one knows if you're a teenage boy, so why don't you do it?"

"Fine, whatever." We got to his house and walked right in. "Hey, Mom!" Steve shouted across the house. Mrs. Rogers quickly came our way. She had her hair in a bun and wore a very mom-ish dress.

"Oh, Bucky! I didn't expect you to be here, homework I assume?" she said.

"Actually, no." Steve replied. "Due to an unfortunate event, Bucky's parents died and he's been living in an abandoned boxcar."

"Wait, what?!" Mrs. Rogers exclaimed. "Why didn't you come to us? Why didn't you tell me? Are you healthy? Have had enough food? You, know what? I'm going to make us a very big dinner tonight. But why didn't you come to stay with us?" She went up to me and gave me the tightest hug I've ever experienced. "I am so sorry about your parents! Are you okay with telling me how they passed away? If not, that's fine."

I felt tears coming on. "Someone murdered them. I woke up to see blood spilling out of my parents room," Mrs. Rogers pulled away with tears running down her cheeks. "Scared, I opened the door to see bloody sheets and the lifeless faces of my parents." By this point I was crying. "I quickly called the police and ran away. The only things I brought with me were a sleeping bag, my backpack, some clothes, my phone, and my guitar and keyboard. Can I live with you guys?"

"Of course, sweetie! You're going to have to share a room with Steve, but I'm guessing that's fine."

"Yeah," Steve and I said in unison. We went up the stairs to Steve's room and I put my stuff down.

"Play me a song." he said. I sighed. I pulled my keyboard and guitar out and started singing "Stitches". I didn't know why, but I did. I don't know why I even memorized that song. It's not my favorite song in the world. I guess it describes my life, in a way. All these terrible things keep happening to me, and I need something or someone to care to my wounds. After I finished singing he clapped with a big smile on his face. I looked at the floor and smiled.

"I gotta do homework now," I said. "I'm guessing you do too."

"Yeah, I got this one writing assignment that I'm having some trouble with. I have to write about about something that could never happen. Ever. I had two ideas, but I think I'm going to go with alien team fighting against a space god," Steve explained. I just stared at him and went back to my geometry homework. Suddenly, I remembered that the Halloween Dance is this Friday. I quickly zoomed through my homework and started practicing the song I'll play for the dance. I was going to do 'Shut Up and Dance', 'Cake by the Ocean', and 'Riptide'. I tried a soft metal version of 'Cake by the Ocean', so not as loud as real metal, but enough that it's playable on the electric guitar. I started practicing, then I remembered Steve.
