"I don't think we can be friends anymore"

Those were the last words I heard before I dashed out of the classroom. I couldn't believe it. It all started with a normal fight, but it got drastically worse. She was my best friend since preschool and she doesn't want us to be friends anymore??? Not only that, she said that in front of the entire class! Without her, I won't have anyone to hang out with for the rest of high school. I have no one now. I could barely see where I was running because of the immense amount of tears bursting out of my eyes.

After the rush of tears took a big halt, I looked around and noticed that I was alone at last. I leaned against the nearest door in the hallway, sliding down on the floor. I attempted to fight back the tears as the painful memory that occurred just mere minutes ago flooded back into my thoughts. As I was about to burst into tears again, I heard music and...singing? I looked up at the sign next to the door and it was labeled:

音楽室 (Music Room)

I wiped away the tears on my face and cautiously opened the door, hoping not to interrupt the musician. I saw the man standing at the front of the classroom, singing while strumming a guitar as if he was on stage. I couldn't help but stand there as I was taking in the wonderful music he was playing. It was the most glamorous sounds I've ever heard. As soon as the song ended, he spotted me at the door and began freaking out.

"G-gomennasai! I have permission to be in here..s-see!" He stuttered as he put his guitar back into it's case and grabbed what looked like a permission slip out of his school bag.

I looked at him with confusion, "What? I just walked by here and heard someone playing music."

"Oh... I thought you were the president of the student body or something" He said with a big relief.

I laughed in response, "You thought I was the president? You're new here aren't you."

He replied, "Yeah I moved here. I haven't fully settled in my new home yet so I thought I could practice here."

"That's awesome! I'm L/N Y/N from 2-A! Nice to meet you!"

He smiled back, "Likewise! I'm Sato Shori from class 2-C. "

"So Sato-san, what was it you were playing earlier?" I asked him as I took a big step inside the music room."

"Oh that? It's a song I put together called 'Last Winter's Night'" Shori answered.

"Wow. I really like it!" I complimented.

"Thanks..." he said and looked closer at my face with concern, "Are you ok? You look like you've been crying."

"Oh that? It's nothing to worry about." I answered with a sniffle as I wiped my eyes once more.

Shori inched closer with the same concern face, "You sure? It'll be better if you tell someone about it."

"...I lost my best friend..." I replied trying to hold back my tears that were about to leak out any moment. I was suddenly pressed against a warm chest, and I looked to see it was Shori.

"I'm sorry to hear that...It's ok, you can let it all out." He stated as he combed through my H/C locks. That was when I began crying once again. Once I started, I couldn't stop. I let every ounce of tear out of my system while Shori continued calming me down. "Can I be your friend?"

"...what?" I asked him confusingly.

"I'm probably not like your ex-friend, but I'd love to have a friend too." He stated.

I tilted my head and asked, "You don't have any friends?"

He briefly explained, "Nah, it's second year. Everyone's already in their little groups. In fact, you're the first classmate I've spoken to all day.

"Oh, well I'd love to be friends with you!" I responded enthusiastically.

"Great!" He replied enthusiastically as well.

I changed the subject to avoid awkward silence, "So, have you made any more songs?"

He confusingly questioned, "Yeah...why?"

"Could I hear them?" I requested and he nodded in response. He took out his guitar and I sat on the piano bench, listening to another one of his songs called 'Hachidori'. Spending time with Shori cheered me up and washed my sadness away.

~1 Year Later~

Ever since that first day we met, Shori and I became best friends. There was never a day where we wouldn't hang out. Although most of the time, it would be him reteaching me lessons since he's currently valedictorian. Shori was currently tutoring me in math because I just couldn't understand today's lesson.

"Okay Y/N-chan, I think we're done for today. Make sure to do the homework." Shori said as I laid my head back against the sofa.

I told him, "I'm pooped out. I need a drink." and he chuckled in response.

"Alright, I'll get us some tea." Shori told me as he got up.

I immediately replied, "What?! No no no! You're my guest, I'll get it." and I stood up as well, only to crash into him, making us fall onto the carpet floor.

I found that I was laying on the floor with Shori on top of me. I noticed that his hands were on both sides of my head, in the position of a...yukadon??? Shori looked deep into my E/C orbs and inched slowly towards me. He closed his eyes as our lips pressed together. As sudden as all this was, I didn't want to stop. I shut my eyes closed and cupped his face while he remained his hands on the floor to sustain his balance. The kiss felt needy almost forceful. Has he been wanting to do this for a long time? Is it true? Has he loved me this whole time? Before I could finish comprehending what was happening, his lips left mine. When I opened my eyes, Shori vanished and I heard the front door close. I sat back up on the carpet, breathless, and noticed a note on the table:

Meet me outside your house tomorrow at 1:00, it's about time we have our first date ;)
