Johanna awoke with a terrible pain coming from her back. It felt almost like her skin was burning off. She yelled as another wave of intense pain came from her back. Tears streamed down her face as another wave hit; this one even worse. It lasted a few seconds longer too, but it was like hours to Johanna.

Her father came running into her room; a baseball bat in hand. He thought a burgler might have gotten into Johanna's room. When he saw no other person in the room he calmed himself somewhat. His daughter writhing and screaming in pain is what scared him more.

He quickly dropped the bat and ran over to help his daughter.

"What's wrong, Johanna? What's wrong?!" He panicked.

"My- AH!" Johanna let out another horrendous scream. "My back, my back" She got out through gritted teeth and tears.

"Lucy, get the car!" He shouted at his wife as she entered the room.

"Can you walk?" He asked; directing his attention back to his daughter.

Johanna knew that if her father carried her he would have to touch her back, where the pain was coming from. Instead of saying it hurt too much to walk she nodded.

Johanna grabbed her father's hand and got off her bed slowly. She was shaky on her feet and there was still pain but she pushed forward nonetheless.

The journey down the hall felt like miles to Johanna. Each step felt so small but she remained patient. Her father held her against him through every step. When they got to the front door a wave of pain came. It was harsh and sudden. Johanna lost her balance and fell towards the ground. Her father got a hold of her before she hit the floor. Part of his arm pressed on her back. She was in too much pain to tell him to let go of her. Johanna sucked it up and waited out the pain. She screamed into her father's chest and grabbed a fistful of his shirt.

"Come on, Johanna. We gotta get you to the hospital." He said trying to give his daughter support.

She took a deep breath and walked the rest of the way to the car.

Carlisle often worked the graveyard shift at the ER. He didn't sleep after all. And odd cases tend to come during the middle of the night which give him some entertainment.

He was looking at the lab results of a previous patient when a nearby nurse let out a sigh. He took that as a sign that someone was coming in. It was pretty empty tonight and the nurse would've rather kept it that way.

"What is it?" Carlisle asked.

"Teen, burn-like pain on the back." The nurse lifted her brows before saying the worst part. "And the parents are bringing her in."
