...
Jasper had never looked so worried. He was worried about both Johanna and himself. The ambulance was a small space and he was so close to Johanna. He only wished that the paramedics would clean the blood from her injury faster so he'd calm down somewhat. He could feel himself slowly losing his composure. His hearing would focus on Johanna's heartbeat and how rapid it was. His scent would only catch Johanna's blood.
Meanwhile, Alice was still panicking. Not only was Johanna hurt but Jasper was with her. Even Alice smelled the blood from across the parking lot like it was right next to her. She had only smelled blood that divine once before, many years ago. For Jasper to be so close to it and have the least restraint out of the entire family was bound to be a disaster. But she hadn't seen anything in her visions of Jasper that bad. The rest of her family began to leave the parking lot. They wanted to avoid the scene before people got too suspicious.
Johanna was still reeling from the entire situation. Her mind was filled with questions, none of which she could answer. They were questions about Jasper mostly. She often caught herself staring at him as he looked at the paramedics. He was watching them carefully as if he were making sure they weren't making a mistake. He would rarely notice Johanna's strong stare. Through all the thoughts running in her head, the same one still persisted: Jasper was the most beautiful person she had ever laid her eyes on.
Jasper noticed Johanna and where her gaze was focused. She seemed out of reality, as though at any moment she'd faint. Jasper decided to talk to Johanna to get her focus back again.
"Johanna, is everything okay? How are you feeling?"
"I'm okay," She answered without thinking about her words.
"Are you sure? That was a pretty quick answer," Jasper persisted.
Johanna was looking right at him but heard nothing. It didn't matter though because what she said next didn't answer his question anyway. "You're incredibly beautiful,"
Johanna was being delirious once again. It worried Jasper because he wasn't sure what Johanna meant when she said things like this. Johanna picked up on his confusion and decided to fix it in order to calm him down.
"Jasper, I'm fine. I'm in terrible pain and I've never been so confused in my life but for the most part, I'm fine." Johanna paused for a moment, thinking if she should say the other thing on her mind. In an instant, she decided to say it. "I meant what I said earlier though,"
Jasper froze for a moment. Did the girl he thought was the greatest person to ever enter his life say, and mean, that he was beautiful? Was that Johanna admitting feelings for Jasper? If it was, why had she acted so cold? Before Jasper had even finished asking himself more questions they had arrived at the hospital.
...
Jasper had continued as though everything was still normal. As though he hadn't wanted to completely devour her ten minutes ago. What mattered now to him was that Johanna would be okay. He sat next to Johanna on a chair, she sat almost completely upright on the reclined hospital bed. She wasn't holding Jasper's hand anymore, but not because she didn't want to. She thought maybe Jasper had gotten tired of holding her hand. That was something he would never get tired of though.
