When Johanna returned to her room she immediately took off her jacket and got into bed. She had heard her mother's footsteps get closer to the door and it was only a matter of time before she entered. Johanna's comforter was on her shoulders for a few seconds before the door was opened. She stayed still and silent until her mother closed the door again. She let out a sigh of relief when she finally heard her mother walk away.

Johanna took the covers off her shoulders and turned onto her back. She knew she wasn't going to go to sleep so soon after what had just happened. It had been an eventful night. She thought she might have more of a reaction to running away but now it was as though it hadn't happened. Either Johanna was getting used to it or Jasper had overshadowed all that happened. She believed it was the latter.

Even after all that happened, Jasper was the center of her focus. The way his voice lowered when he told her to stay in the car. The way he looked at her when he said he meant too much to her. The way she felt his eyes on her back as she walked away and how he didn't leave until she was back inside. It made her feel lighter than air. Jasper made her feel that. All she wanted to do was stare back into his golden eyes and have him close again.

Jasper wasn't sure if what he said was the right choice. By no means was any of it a lie but, he shouldn't have gotten Johanna's hopes so high. He wanted Johanna more than anything but he worried that eventually he'd want to kill her more. He feared his restraint around Johanna was getting weaker; or maybe it was him letting her in. Either way, he was worried. Jasper had never feared anyone or anything in his life but he was scared of Johanna. He was scared that he'd hurt her and he could he face that pain and guilt? He hated that fear, all it did was hold him back from her.

He needed to stop with such negative thoughts. He had told Johanna what he was and she had done the same, they both knew too much now. Whether or not he was scared of her, he couldn't just leave. Jasper knew as soon as he saw Johanna on her first day that he'd never be able to leave her.

...

Jasper's negative thoughts never stopped. He spent hours thinking of all the terrible things that could happen to Johanna because of him. He could lose control, he could use too much of his strength on accident, the list went on. There were a million possibilities it seemed like. These thoughts soured Jasper's mood even as he arrived at school.

Johanna had driven herself to school today. She told Jasper that she planned on getting more sleep and would go to school later in the day. While Johanna did drive herself, she arrived right on time. She was even able to meet up with Jasper in the parking lot. He was alone in a the corner of the parking lot, leaning against his car with a book in hand. He was a sight to see even while doing something as simple as reading.
