I kept my head down as I walked through the busy halls of my school as I tried to navigate my way to my locker, until I was stopped by someone stepping out in front of me. I looked up and sighed in relief when I was that it was my best and only friend, Mason. I started to smile but my relief was short lived.
"Kelly, man, look. We can't be friends any more." And with those six words my life went from bad to worse.
"What do you mean we can't be friends any more?" I asked shyly.
"I asked Brooke out this morning and she said yes. So I will be hanging out with her now."
"Can't she sit with us?" I asked quietly.
"Kelly, dude. Please don't make me spell this out for you." He spoke.
I must have still looked confused because he let out a frustrated sigh and rolled his eyes at me.
"Your a loser Kelly. I'm sorry but you are. Brooke said that she doesn't want to be seen with you and that of I am going to be with her I have to sit at her table. Let's be honest Kelly, it's not like you talk much anyway." He explained as it it was simple.
"Mason, you can't just leave me. Your my only friend. Please." I whispered. He opened his mouth to respond when a heavy hand clamped down on my shoulder. I swallowed hard and tried to mentally prepare myself for the pain I was about to be in.
"Mason!" An arrogant voice boomed behind me. "What are you doing still talking to this loser for?"
"I was just telling him not to talk to anymore mate, don't worry about it." Mason explained.
"Really? Because it looks like he was bothering you." He turned to face me. "You bothering my friend?" I shook my head and tried to pull out of his heavy grip on my shoulder.
"Are you sure? Because it looks like you where and o don't want a friend of mine having to be forced to socialise with pathetic, unwanted creatures such as yourself." His grip tightened causing pain to shoot from my shoulder and I could feel the sting of tears fill my eyes.
"Aww. Come on Kelly. Take it like a man. You are a guy right? I mean it's so hard to tell what with the name and you hardly talk so we do t really know do we." He laughed and pushed me to the floor. He turned to walk away and I saw Mason stare at me before he walked away. I pulled myself into against the lockers in a sitting position as the bell rang sending student scurrying of to class and I started to cry all alone in the empty corridor.
You don't have to put up with this. Said a voice in my head. I sniffed and lifted my head off my knees. You don't have to stay here. Just leave. Nobody will care. Spend the day in the park. I don't know what it was that made me go to the park that day. Whether it was my idea or maybe so type of fate telling me to go there but I am glad I did. Because it changed my life forever.
