Georgia's P.O.V
My eyes couldn't bear the news told to me and teared down my face, little by little as what the woman was saying was no longer translatable. How? Why? Out of all people, why him? My mind was in a world of its own for only a moment but that moment felt like an eternity. The words spoken down the phone became English and I could hear her concerned voice.
"Mam, can you hear me?" She spoke
"Yeah" I spoke dully
"Come to the hospital as soon as possible" She commanded "We don't know how long he will be asleep for"
"Okay, I will. Goodbye"I hung up the phone and stared at it, still trying to comprehend the news. I felt a hand on my shoulder and a continuous voice say my name, over and over like a broken record.
"...Georgia? Georgia, can you hear me?" Toby's voice echoed in my mind
I turned towards him and mustered a calm face. His eyes focused on me as he scanned my watered face with worry.
"Georgia, what's happened, why are you crying?"
"...H-H-"
"Georgia, what has he done?"
"He..."My calm face turned into a breakdown as my sobs could no longer hide from the world. Toby stayed silent and looked at me to finish my sentence.
"Mark...He...He got into a car crash!" I sobbed
"What?!" Toby gasped with fear
"He got into a car crash and the woman told me that it was fatal! He's in the hospital, asleep and I'm so scared!!"
"Oh I'm so sorry Georgia!"Toby wrapped his arms around me as I sobbed into his shirt and cried my heart out. My breathing got worse and ragged, trying to catch what air there was. Toby grabbed me by the shoulders and took me to his car. I sat at the passenger's seat and buckled my seatbelt, laying back. I looked at my hands as they quivered and shook visibly. I looked over at Toby who looked like he was going to cry. Just started driving away and didn't say another word to me. I was grateful for that. I didn't want him to try and comfort me, saying how everything is going to be alright. Because I know that things will not be alright.
My tears burnt like fire and they wouldn't stop falling from my eyes, down my red cheeks and dripping onto the hands that held Mark like an angel. I covered my face and started sobbing loudly into my hands. Toby kept his eyes on the road the entire time, never once during that car ride did he bother me. I was happy about that. Because I worried about Mark. I lifted my face back and that's when I saw my reflection in the mirror. My sad, hurt face which was full of joy this morning was now destroyed and pain stricken.
We reached the hospital and I was quick to take off my seatbelt and bolt out of the car. Toby told me to hold up but I didn't listen to him and entered the hospital. Everyone was just being normal. Waiting for loved ones, waiting to be served for their injuries, waiting for something. Now I was joining them and waiting. I went up to the counter where an old woman was typing. She looked up at me and smiled
"How may I help you?" She smiled, handing me a tissue
"I'm here for Mark Fischbach" I answer, taking the tissue
"And who are you?"
"Georgia Cartner, his fiancé"
"Okay, he is currently still in surgery so if you will just wait in the waiting room and we will call you when you can see him"
"Okay, thank you"
"Hold on Miss"The lady went into another room and came back with a box of tissues.
"I think you should keep this and clean yourself up to see your fiancé" She spoke
"Thank you so much"I walked to find a seat and played the waiting game, like everyone else was. Toby saw me sitting with the box of tissues and slowly approached me. He took a seat next to me and placed a hand on my shoulder.
"What did the doctor say at the reception?" Toby asked softly
"She said he is in surgery right now so I can't see him yet" I state bluntly
"Well, at least he is okay"
"But he's not"
"Don't say that Georgia, he is going to be fine"
"Is he? Or is that just some false hope?"Toby didn't respond. Instead, he just looked away from me and waited with me. It wasn't long until I heard footsteps and rapid breathing. I looked up and that's when we saw each other and locked eyes.
"Georgia!"
"Ryan!"His eyes were red with pain and we hugged each other tightly.
"Is Mark okay? What did they say?"
"Mark is in surgery so we have to wait"
"What? But they said that he was sleeping!"...He was right. They DID say that he was sleeping. So why was he in surgery now? I decided to walk up to the reception desk.
"Yes Miss?" She greeted
"Um, on the phone, I was told that he was sleeping. So why is he in surgery now?" I questioned
"Miss, please understand that he was in a good enough condition to be moved down the priority list"
"What do you mean?"Suddenly, someone grabbed my shoulder and greeted me. A male doctor looked at me with comfort.
"Are you Georgia Cartner?"
"Yes, who are you?"
"I'm Doctor John Smith and I have the results with Mark Fischbach's condition"
"He's out of surgery?"
"Yes- "
"Can I see him? Please?"
"That's what I need to talk to you about"
"Why? Why can't I just see him now?!"
"Miss Cartner, Mark isn't going to be hugging you the minute you walk in the door"
"But I can wait for him to wake up"
"Georgia, he's in a coma"----
