Mark's P.O.V
Where am I? Is this heaven? It's so...white. Wait, I'm in a white room. I can look around. What is this place? I step forward with my feet. I can move freely. I notice the edges of the room. My vision is becoming clearer. The emptiness in this room fills up with neutral thought. I can remember good things and bad things. I can remember everything.
"Hello?" My voice echoes softly "Is anybody there?"
A memory flashes in my mind. The car crash. I had read Georgia's text message and then I was struck by a car. Surely, I'm dead. But it feels like my heart is pumping the blood. If I'm not dead, that can only mean that my body has fallen into a comatose state. I'm on the edge of life and death.
Footsteps. I hear a small hum to my right, turning my head to see a girl, smiling away.
"Who are you?" I ask her
"I'm a baby girl"
"Um...you are a small girl. Not a baby"
"I am a baby. Don't tell me I am wrong"
"Okay, jeez. So what are you doing here? Where even am I?"
"I am here to help you. We are in your mind. You are not dead, just holding on"What could she possibly help me with? She doesn't know me!
"Oh Mark Fischbach, you really are clueless, aren't you?"
"What- How did you know my name?!"
"Because this is your mind. I have been in your mind before. Not physically, mentally"
"But I don't recognise your face at any point of my life"
"That's okay, I never expected you to meet me"
"What's that supposed to mean?"The girl didn't answer and instead walked closer to me. I noticed details that were not my concern before. Black, rich hair. Glistening blue eyes. Tan-like skin. I have never seen a girl like her in my life.
"Mark, I want you to follow me"
"Why?"
"Because I want to take you to your first choice"
"First choice of what?"
"Life and death"
"Why would I need to choose between the two. I would just pick life anyway"
"Would you Mark? Wouldn't you want to join with the people you have lost? Daniel? Your father?"Damn it. Why do I have to go through with this?
"Fine, take me"
"Okay"She grabbed my hand and I followed her on a small path. She opened a door and we were going from the white, blank room to a paradise. The forest was bright and relaxing. A river streaming slowly down, grass soft and long, small birds chirping.
"What is this place?" I wondered
"This is your dreams"
"My dreams?"
"This is where you want to be. When you go to heaven, this is what heaven will look like. You can look at all your dreams, your life goals and most especially...the people who have died"I look at her with intrigue and she giggles.
"Sounds tempting" I say
She nods "I know, and here is where your first test lies"
"What's the test?"
"I want you to pick what necklace you are going to wear"That's it? Just pick between stupid necklaces?
"That's pretty straight forward" I suspect "There must be some sort of catch"
She giggles "You are smart, Mark. There are two necklaces. One is of a dove, which symbolises freedom and death. The other is a heart, meaning love and living. The necklace you pick will influence you as a person. I can assure you that"The girl pulled the necklaces from her pockets, presenting them in her hands. I don't know what to choose. These necklaces show life and death.
"Take your time, Mark. It's not supposed to be an easy decision" She informed me
I nodded and looked around the forest. I walked down to the stream and sat on the grass. I looked at my reflection in the water and took a long sigh. I dipped a finger into the river and all of a sudden, a memory in the water was swirling, appearing with so
much clarity. It was my Mom. She looks really young. Next to her was a man. My Dad. They were happy and smiling, Mom almost in tears with joys.
"It's our little boy" Mom cried
"I know" Dad agreed "What should we call him?"
"I think we should go with a masculine name"
"How about Mark?"
"Oh, that's a beautiful name. Sounds so strong"
"And he is going to be strong, just like his Dad"
"Oh you!"I heard them laugh before I heard my own cries.
"Mark...Edward?" Mom suggests
"Yes. Mark Edward Fischbach" Dad answered
"Oh, he is going to grow up to be such a good man"
"I know he will. He will be a hero to somebody in this world and they are going to be so happy that he is alive"The memory faded and I was on the verge of tearing. That must have been the first brain active memory after I was born. Such a beautiful memory I witnessed before my eyes. I looked up to see the birds as they chirped happily.
I stood up and smiled. I was born on the earth for a reason. For me to see that memory, it must mean that my purpose isn't done yet. Maybe is has only begun.
I walked back to the little girl, still holding the two necklaces. I wrapped my hands around the heart necklace and slipped it around my neck, smiling and not regretting with my choice.
"I see. Life over death" She stated "That was your first test. More are still to come. But I will only be there at the end"
"What do you mean?" I question
"The next time you will see me, it will be when your have to make your ultimate decision"
"So who is going to be testing me next""Hello Mark"
I turned around with shock.
"You?"
