Lina's POV"You're gonna have to do it sometime" Jack argues.
"And that sometime isn't now" I say, clenching my jaw. We've been sitting in the couch, arguing for a good half an hour about me going to stand up to my dad.
"Well now is as good a time as any" He says, clearly frustrated. I huff and cross my arms.
"I'll do it when I have a plan"
"Like you're ever gonna think of a plan in the next week" He mumbles.
"Um excuse you but I am capable of actually doing things" I snap.
"Doesn't look like it to me" He snaps back.
"You know what," I say standing up "I am not just gonna sit here and take these damn insults! If you wanted me gone so badly, you could've just told me." Grabbing my bag, I bolt out of the house.
"Lina wait!" I hear him hour but I keep running. I run for a good 15 minutes before finally stopping in the park. Sitting in a bench, I place my backpack next to me. Before I realize, I'm crying. "Stupid prick" I mutter through the tears. "Stupid dad. Stupid Sean. Stupid me" I rub my eyes and try to compose myself, but fail."Hey, are you okay?" A voice says above me.
"Y-yeah I'm fine" I stutter whilst wiping my eyes.
The man looks at me for a minute, "You don't look okay" He says softly. I take a minute to look at him, cute glasses, dyed red hair, I've gotta say he's pretty good looking. "My name's Mark" He smiles, placing my bag on the ground and sitting next to me.
"Lina" I sniff.
"You wanna know what makes me happy?" He asks, looking at me. I nod. "Ice cream" He grins. I manage crack a smile. "Come on, let's go get some" He says softly. I nod and stand up. Mark grabs my bag and we walk to the ice cream parlour down the street.Mark holds the door open and I say a thank you. The place is decorated with blue and white stripes and retro tables. We walk up the counter. "Hello! What can I get you?" The cashier asks.
"I'll have two scoops of cotton candy" Mark says.
"Alright, and for the lady?" The cashier asks.
"Mint chocolate chip please" I say as my voice cracks.
The cashier nods and runs off to get our ice cream. He comes back a few minutes later with two ice cream cones. "That'll be $4.59" He says. I pull out a five but my Mark stops me.
"Allow me" He smiles as he hands the guy a five . "Keep the change" The guy nods and me and Make leave the parlour, ice cream in hand. We head back to the park and sit on the bench. I bump Mark's arm and his ice cream hits him in the nose. I laugh while he glares at me. "Not cool he grumbles" His attempt to be angry fails and he ends up laughing along with me. He wipes his nose and we get back to eating our ice cream.
"Tell me something about you" He asks out of the blue. I think for a minute.
"I'm currently 18" I say.
"Ooo so am I" Mark grins widely which causes me to giggle. "Let's go one the swings" He shouts, practically ripping my arm off whilst dragging me to the swings. I throw my bag near the pole and sit on the swings.
"Push me" I whine. Mark shakes his head and chuckles. He begins pushing me to the sky. I giggle, "Since I told you something about me, you've gotta tell me something about you"
"Hmm okay, I have a dog named Chica" He says. I place my feet on the ground and turn to look at him.
"You mean you have a dog and you didn't how me? How could you do that, I love dogs!" I exclaim. Mark chuckles and begins pushing me again.Around 9 pm, Mark brings me back to Jack's house. "Thanks again Mark, today was really fun. We should do it gain some time" I smile as I step onto the porch.
"I'd like that" He smiles. "I'll give you my number so we can schedule another day like this" I nod and we trade phones, putting our numbers into them. We swap back and sy our goodbyes.
"Night Mark" I say, hugging him. He chuckles and hugs me back.
"Night Lina" He smiles softly. I walk inside but not before I give a small wave.I walk into the house to find all the lights off. I quietly take my shoes off and drop my bag onto a chair in the living room. Quietly tiptoeing down the hall, I stop in front of Sean's room. I take a deep breath and open the door to find him sleeping, his cheeks tear stained. I slowly close the door and grab a blanket from the closet. Guess it's the couch for tonight.
