Lays' POV
I woke up this morning feeling refresh. It's the first day of school and it will also be my first day teaching in uni. I know the subject I'll be teaching will be lame to some, but it's what I really want. My parents didn't agree with my choice, they find it as a waste, non significance; they say poets are for dreamers, novels are for dumb.
Maybe I am a dreamer, I often wish for a prince in a white horse to swept me of my feet, or rescue me from the evil witch. I'm a romantic person who's waiting to feel that electric spark, when the one you love gives you the simplest touch, seeing the rainbow or fireworks or the flowers bloom when you finally meet your destiny, or when you look at that someone's eyes everything around you seems to freeze and all you see is that person. I know it's crazy.
So it's not big news if I tell you what happened to my past relationships? Yup! All failed. Cause I always look for these things.
My parents just let me be, my mother seems to just give up on telling me to just settle to someone sensible enough to tolerate my dumbness. My dad just didn't care at all.
Anyways, I get up my single bed and start my morning rituals, I dressed up to impress. I like button up blouses, so I got lots of them, I choose a white one and partnered it with an above knee pencil cut skirt, then finish this with a blazer and a 3 inches high heels. I put some perfume and put on my wrist watch. I'm set to go. I open my room door and walk out my condo. I leave alone because I've had enough criticisms from my parents. I'm in the eight floor so I usually use the elevator.
So while we wait till I reach the ground floor I'll tell you about my family. My parents are accountants, they work at the office. Doing paper works, reports and everything their bosses ask them to do. So we can be considered as middle class family considering their jobs. I have an older sister and a younger brother. My sister is the favourite; she's the smartest, most talented, of the three Adams kids and her beauty's is just like a cherry on top. Jessica is tolerable than my mom, so I don't really mind her boastful attitude. She's engage to her college boyfriend Joshua, she works with him in an engineering firm, and both of them are junior architects. My brother, Kyle, and I, took the course we like, while she let our parents choose for her. I took a Lit and writing course and Kyle is taking chefs course, he's on his third year, so I think you know that I'll be closer to him than my parents and Jess, we kind of watch each other's back. Besides the foods he cooked are absolutely heavenly.
The elevator door opens and I got out of it, I live near the university so I decide to just walk to get there.
When I enter the school premises I saw lots of students roaming around and trying to find their room, I just went straight to the faculty room, we have our personal offices here but I need to go there because the English dept head will give me some instructions.
I entered the room and see only a couple of co-teachers here; I knock on the heads' office. Mrs. Ramos opens the door and let me inside her office. "Good morning." I greet her before taking a sit on the chair in front of her office desk.
"Morning Ms. Adams, how are you feeling?" She smiles at me. She's a kind looking old lady, maybe on her late sixties. You can see the intelligence she gains through her life with the way she looks at you. She sees more than other could, when I first met her, her gaze intimidates me, maybe she even scares me, but then after she look intently at me, she smile, and that's the kindest smile someone has given me throughout my adult life.
"I feel a little nervous; it's a big step for me." I told her honestly.
"Ah, yes, the first time teaching, and considering you are not going to teach toddles makes this more... frightening perhaps? Your class will be with college graduates and undergraduates. Some of your students might be interested on writing, and others must have just too much time on their hands that they want to make your class their sleeping time." I listen to her as she said these things, thinking to myself, who would spent their money and time to just sleep on lit class.
"I won't tell you how to handle your class, I'll just give you a syllabus on what to tackle in this semester." She gave me a folder, I've already have my own syllabus but I still take what she's given me.
"You may go now, I think you have your first class in 5 min. Good luck Ms. Adams, be cautious with who you'll be strict with and who you'll be your favourite. This students are not average persons, they are either geniuses or richest." She warns me before she close the door after I went out of her office.
