Ashes to Ashes Part 1 Prologue

"I can't believe it Crevan, we finally found it, the key to time travel," said a young, brunette woman, her blue eyes sparkling with excitement. She was wearing a white lab coat, the emblem on the back showing a large, white dragon intertwined with a black one, both holding the earth. The label on the bottom said, "New World Inc."

"I know, Ashley," said a young dark haired man. He was wearing the same white coat, a pair of thin rimmed glasses sitting low on his nose. "We have worked hard for this," he continued, picking up a small artifact, necklace-like in nature. It was a large, green, leaf-shaped talisman attached to a chord made out of ancient elk hide.

"When can we test it out?" asked the woman. "It's already 2039, the software has been ready for decades, but this," she continued, taking the talisman from Crevan, "this talisman has provided the last piece of our puzzle. I can't wait."

"We might have to. We haven't been authorized to use the time-traveler, making us sure to lose these positions if we try anything."

"I know, Crevan, but..."

"But you think we should, before those army nuts get a hold of it?"

"You read me like a book."

"Lets do it them. Tonight. Meet me here at midnight."

"Got it," sounded Ashley's swift reply as she flicked off her desk light. They had been packing up for the night when they had made their big discovery. Crevan continued to "tidy" up his station until Ashley had left. When the ringing of her footsteps disappeared into the sounds of the busy city around the office, he slowly picked up the talisman from the table and drew an exact replica from his pocket. Carefully placing the original into his briefcase, he slid the fake into position. He bent down under the table and pulled out a walkie-talkie from its hiding position and turned it on.

"Fox to Alpha, come in Alpha," Matt said.

"Alpha here. What, Fox?"

"I have apprehended the item of question."

"Good. Get out of there. We don't need anymore trouble with these loons."

"Yes, sir."

With that, Crevan turned off the last glowing desk lamp and walked out of the room, slowly closing and locking the door. He quickly made his way down to the ground floor. He let out an evil cackle and mumbled to himself.

"My name doesn't mean Fox by coincidence," he said and, with a last swish of his lab coat, he disappeared into the night.
