There were many obvious things in life, things that go without saying, the sky is blue, grass is green, water is a liquid, and Tsukishima Kei was in love with his best friend. So how Yamaguchi went so long without knowing was unclear.
There wasn't many options as to who he could go to for help. Hinata and Kageyama only cared about volleyball. Nishinoya didn't have much experience, and neither did Asahi. Tanaka was, well, Tanaka. He didn't know Ennoshita very well. That only left Daichi and Sugawara.
"So...you need advice on how to confess to Yamaguchi?" asked Daichi. The blonde nodded his head. Subs and Daichi exchanged looks.
"Well, there isn't really no right or wrong way to do it, just tell him how you feel." Suga stated. Daichi nodded in agreement.
"But....what if he rejects me?"
"I think it's safe to say that he won't." the dark haired male smiled. Suga nodded his head in agreement.
"How would you know?"
"Just trust us, okay?" Daichi responded.
"I see....thank you." and with that, Tsukishima walked away to join Yamaguchi and the others in drill practices.
Now that Tsukishima had the how, he just needed the when and where. He was distracted throughout practice, and didn't hear a word Coach Ukai said at the end of it. It wasn't until they were in the changing room that Yamaguchi finally said something about it.
"Hey, Tsukki, is everything okay?"
"Yes, why?"
"Well, during practice, you seemed kinda distracted. I get worried, y'know."
"It's nothing."
Despite knowing that there was something up, Yamaguchi let it be. Meanwhile, although on the outside he was as cool as a cucumber, internally, Tsukishima was screaming. He didn't want Yamaguchi to worry, so there was only one solution.
Until he either confessed, or the more safe option, got rid of these feelings, he would have to ignore his best friend.
It wasn't that he wanted to, but there was seemingly no other way of dealing with his feelings in the meantime. If it was any consolation, it wasn't necessarily easy to ignore him. Only now was Tsukishima realizing just how much time he spent with Yamaguchi, who was pretty much his only friend.
The entire day consisted of the other male trying to get his attention, but his efforts were in vain. Each time he tried to talk to him, Tsukishima excused himself, saying he had something he needed to do. Did Tsukishima feel like the shittiest person in the world for doing this? Yes, absolutely.
By the time after school practice rolled around, the blonde had to make a quick decision. Either go to practice and run the risk of being forced to talk to Yamaguchi, or skip practice. I think you can all assume which one he chose.
Seeing Kageyama and Hinata walking towards the club room, he raced over to them. They both looked up to meet his gaze.
"What do you want?" Kageyama asked.
"Tell Daichi I won't be at practice." and with that, he walked away, not wanting to undergo further interrogation.
The walk home was boring, to say the least. Yamaguchi wasn't there to talk his ear off and keep him company. He sighed, wondering if he was making the right choice by ignoring Yamaguchi. Was he destroying any chance he had to be in a relationship with him? God, being in love with your best friend sucked. He was already having a hard time comprehending just how much time he had spent with Yamaguchi.
After removing his shoes at the door, he went straight up to his room. Sitting down at his desk, he decided to pass the time by doing his homework. He took out today's assignment and began working on the problems. He sighed and rubbed his temples as he progressed through the problems. Normally he would work on his homework with Yamaguchi, at the time he had often scolded the other male for being so talkative when they should be working.
When he finally finished the assignment, he was too tired to deal with anything else. He stripped down to his boxers, shut off the lights, and climbed into bed.
