Tsukishima didn't know what to expect the next day. He didn't have practice today, which was good, except he would still see a certain freckled male in class. Which meant that he would have to spend another day avoiding said freckled male.
'It's just until you get your feelings sorted out.' He told himself. Which he hoped was soon, he really didn't like spending time away from the other. He rubbed his temples and pushed up his glasses. He looked at the school as he arrived at the gate, and let out a sigh, today was going to be a long day.
Once he entered the classroom, he expected Yamaguchi to run up to him and try and get his attention. What he did not expect, however, is for him to be laughing along with a group of people. He could've sworn that him being Tsukishima's only friend went both ways. He stood there until the bell rang and the students had to go to their seats. The entire class he was unable to focus, his thoughts constantly wandering back to Yamaguchi. Once the lunch bell rang he let out a sigh of relief.
Said relief was short lived as he kept looking back over to the group of people. They were making plans for after school. He only overheard bits and pieces of the conversation, it was mostly just yelling, but it slowly died down.
"Man, I'm glad you can actually hang out with us for once!" one guy said.
"Yeah, you're usually hanging out with that Shittyshima!"
Yamaguchi only chuckled and scratched his head. Tsukki couldn't handle it anymore, he quickly rose up from his seat and rushed to the bathroom. Tears welled up in his eyes, but he blinked them away. He walked into a stall and slammed the door shut, and threw up. Leaning up against the stall, he buried his face in his hands. He was overreacting, he should've figured that the way he treated Yamaguchi would eventually catch up to him. He stood up, dusted off his pants, and walked back to the classroom.
Walking back in, he saw the freckled male look over at him with a sorrowful glance, but said nothing. He could hear some of the other boys laughing quietly. The bell rang once again, and the students took their seats. Once again he had a hard time concentrating. He could hear what the teacher was saying, but couldn't comprehend it.
He thought class would never end, when it finally did. He stayed in his seat for a moment, looking down at his notebook. He had taken almost no notes, and there would be a test next week. He shot a glance over to the group of boys Yamaguchi was with, all walking out, talking, laughing, it made him feel sick once again. He arose from his seat, packed up his things, and headed home.
He couldn't keep doing this. There was no way in hell he would be able to keep ignoring his best friend, it was too painful. He wanted to go back to practice, he wanted to tell Yamaguchi to shut up, he wanted them to help each other with their homework, he wanted to hold his hand, he wanted to-
Wait no, homework first, gay thoughts later.
That was easier said than done.
Eventually, Tsukishima managed to somehow finish his homework, but it took way lore than it should have, and he accidentally put 'Yamaguchi Tadashi' as his answer for no. 5. He was starting to worry that he would become one of those girls that doodled their crushes name all over their notebooks. He was determined to not sink that low, but let's face it, that ship sailed a long time ago.
By the time he had to go to bed, he couldn't. His head swarmed with what if's and questions on how he would get by tomorrow. Would Yamaguchi even still want to be his friend after all of this? The next thing he knew, it was morning already. Great. Just great.
He layer in bed for a few minutes, staring up at the ceiling. He wondered how long he would be able to last today. He originally thought that this crush would go away if he simply ignored it, but instead it disrupted his entire life, begging to let itself be known. Finally, his mom called out to him, saying that he would be late. Hesitantly, he got ready for the day.
He trudged into the classroom, rubbing his tired eyes from under his glasses. He fell down into his seat and groaned quietly. Today was going to be even longer than yesterday. He felt Yamaguchi's eyes on him, and slightly shuddered. He directed his attention to the lesson written on the board, which didn't ease the sinking feeling in his stomach. As desperately as he tried to listen, those tiny voices inside his head were determined to be louder.
"Y'know, he might now even want to be friends with you after this"
'Shut up' he thought.
"Even if he did like you before, there's no way he'd like you after this."
'You don't know that.'
"You're right, how could he like someone like you to begin with?"
"That's- that's not-"
"He can always find other friends, he'll move on from you, and you'll be stuck like this forever~"
"Shut the hell up" he accidentally whispered out loud. The teacher broke her train of speech and turned to face him.
"Tsukkishima, do you have something to add?"
"No, I apologize." She gave him an odd look before returning to the lesson. He could here stifled laughter scattered across the room, and hung his head down a bit.
Finally, after what seemed like hours, the hellish day ended. He sighed deeply as he walked out of the building, and saw that Yamaguchi was walking home.
Alone.
Now, he could either suck it up for another day and hopefully get rid of these stupid feelings, or, suck up his oh-so-precious pride and talk to him. Either way, he could face consequences.
I think we can all assume which option he chose.
"Oi, Yamaguchi." he called out, subtly quickening his pace to catch up to him. The freckled male stood there shocked for a little bit, before smiling and waving to him. He eventually caught up and they walked home. Together.
He was glad that Yamaguchi didn't ask any questions pertaining to why he had ignored him, but could tell that it was burning on his mind. Sooner or later, he owed it to him to tell him the reason why.
A/N: hello!!! school started today, and normally that would slow me down, but since i get my work done quick, ill be updating this as regularly as possible. i hope you all enjoy!
