I stood there dressed in black as I was the only one standing near the black hole that mum and dad were being buried into, and next to them was my little brother already laid to rest.

I collapsed on my knees and started crying with pain and loss, why couldn’t I have had died with them? Why did they have to take them and not me?

The question is answered with what happened the day of my family’s death.

It was all my fault.

“Smelly how do you see with these things on?”

I grunted as my little brother Andrew walked into my room, at first I ignored him but with him being the most annoying 7 year old that you could get, he was yelling and screaming at me to get my attention.

“Get out and-“

I lost my sentence as I looked up to my little brother wearing one of my bras on top of his head as glasses.

I jumped off my bed and started chasing him around the house.

“YOU LITTLE BRAT! GET HERE RIGHT NOW YOU ARE SO DEAD!”

I kept chasing him until he fell over and started crying like a baby he is.

“y….ou meany. Y…ou urt me, I am dobbing on you.”

Andrews face was streaming with tears as he ran off to mum and dad. I followed after him to see my parent’s faces. I leaned up against the doorframe of the front room and observed the scene.

“Momma smelly hurt me.”.

I rolled my eyes as Andrew started crying, and just like I predicted mum comforted him like it WAS my fault. Dad came up behind me and grunted in disapproval.

“When will you lean April? His just a little boy.”

My eyes widened. Are they being serious right now, can they not see that my bra hanging around his head?

Dad walked past me and helped mum with the little brat that I call my brother. I was about to walk back to my room when dad called my name.

“I thought your mother told you to get ready for the lunch with family an hour ago? Hurry up and get ready.”

I groaned and shook my head. “I’m not going I have heaps of study to do before I got back to school, go without me and please I beg you please take that brat that I call my brother with you.”

I walked out of the room and went towards mine before shouting out.

“OH AND TELL ANDREW TO KEEP OUT OF MY ROOM AND OUT OF MY BRAS!”

I slammed my door behind me making my room shake from the vibrations. I jumped on my bed face first into my pillows and screamed thankfully my pillows muffled them.

Moments later my mum came in with an angry look on her face. She stood at the end of my bed with her hands placed firmly on her hips.

“Care to explain what that was out there? You know, you know for a very fact that your father and I give both our children the same amount of attention, so there is no need to seek for attention that you’re not getting.”

I opened my mouth wide. My own mother thought I was an attention seeker?

“Mum I wasn’t seeking attention, I’m just sick of that little brat going through my stuff. Can’t I have my own bit of privacy in this house?”
