Zane
The weekend past in a blur and I still hadn’t had the guts to take the music sheets over to April’s house, I drove past it on the way home Friday and if I went out somewhere I would purposely ride past her house.
It wasn’t until Sunday afternoon that I had no choice but to take the music sheets to her house, otherwise Miss would yell at me for not doing it and April would think that I’m avoiding her.
I got up from my bed that I was lying on and grabbed the sheets of music and went down stairs. Before I could get to the door heavy footsteps stopped me.
“Zane where are you going?”
I turned around to see my dad at the end of the staircase with his arms folded over his really built chest. I swallowed hard and moved away from the door.
“I’m going to go drop off homework to a friend that I found in my bag, that’s all dad. I will be home in an hour."
Dad walked in front of me and stared me in the eye to see if I was lying. I stared back at him until he grunted and went back up stairs. I sighed of relief and walked to my motorbike, fiddling with the keys I managed to calm my nerves and start up my bike.
I rode down the street coming up to April’s I slowed down as I went past houses, once I found April’s I pulled in and shut the bike off. I grabbed the papers from my back pocket and slowly walked up to the front door. I knocked twice before I heard footsteps, a young woman that could pass as April’s sister but I was guess is her mum opened the door.
“Oh hello, can I help you?”
“Yeah umm I’m Zane, is April here?”
The woman blinked in surprised and opened the door wider to let me in.
“Make yourself at home, I’ll go get- April.”
Her tone of voice changed as her attention went elsewhere. I followed her gaze and it landed on April frozen in the doorway wearing really small shorts and a tank top.
“April you have a visitor, I’ll leave you two to it.”
“Thanks Mrs. Clare.”
Both April and the woman snapped their heads to me.
“It’s Miss Clare.”
I switched my gaze to April who looked like she was about to break down in tears but held them back by biting her lip.
“Oh sorry, I didn’t know.”
I said it apologetic as I could, family break up must be really hard. Maybe that’s why she looks so young.
“I’ll leave you two alone now, call if you need anything.”
April nodded and I waved. A moment of silence went passed until I grabbed the papers from one hand and walked towards April.
“Our music teacher gave me theses to give to you, there the music sheets you asked about.”
April grabbed the papers and went through them. I saw her eyes brighten at some points. She put her hand up as if she was saying stay there. So I did, April ran out of the room and shuffled around with something, it wasn’t until I heard the piano play that I managed to walk towards to music.
I stood in the corner of the room and watched April play what sounded like the song. When she finished I could help but clap and when I did April turned around and smiled. I walked up to her and sat beside her.
“You play amazing, but if you changed the d to an e it would giving it your own touch.”
She looked at me weirdly but then ran her fingers over the keys and played the first line changing the end d to an e. she went over the line a few times before she pulled a right smile and looked at me.
