I woke up in the best mood I'd been in for ages. Jason and I could be friends. I knew that for a fact now. He didn't seem too mad about what had happened with Wayne either, although I'd need to see him in person to be one hundred per cent sure.
That would have to wait though as I had a busy day planned. I was still tired from my lack of sleep but thankfully the heat had disappeared a little bit so I wasn't melting to death at work. I had a slight hope that our talk the night before would inspire Jason to make a return to his local convenience store but I had no such luck. Instead the shift dragged along at a snail's pace but once it was over, Anna picked me up and we headed straight out shopping for wedding dresses.
I know that this is something that seems to bring most women on the verge of bursting with excitement but I am not like most women. I find shopping tedious at the best of times, never mind when you're stuck in one store for hours. For me, once you've seen one wedding dress, you've seen them all. Anna clearly disagrees though as she tried on around twelve of them before settling on one. The bridesmaid's dresses for me and her friends were thankfully much easier to choose. Violet coloured strapless ones. I'd never felt so classy in all of my life. Or so purple.
Once this mundane task was out of the way, up came my next one. I called Lily to see how her morning had been. She was supposed to be hanging out with Mason and we both hoped that if the two of them had some alone time then he would realise that he had feelings for Lily too. I was desperate for this to work out, possibly as desperate as I was for Jason and me to work out.
"Well?" I asked hurriedly once Lily picked up on the third ring.
"He's an idiot!" She yelled back.
"What did he do?"
"Nothing! He didn't do anything! He just kept going on about how some rock band have a new album out and it's the album of the year so far" She spoke the last part in a tone which I assumed was supposed to be an impression of Mason.
"Which band?" I asked, knowing how she was going to react.
"Can we focus here please?" She shrieked. "What am I going to do?"
"Relax Lily, I'll send him a message and we can do something tonight, the three of us and I'll make sure that we get some answers from him"
This seemed to relax her a little bit which was only really a small victory. I came up with a plan for the three of us to see a movie that night. I told Mason that it was an action movie so he'd be more inclined to go but in reality I would "accidentally" get the showing times mixed up and we'd go see some shit-scary horror movie instead. I would sit on the end so that my two friends would be forced to sit together. I know that Lily can't handle scary films so she'd inevitably hold onto Mason for some sort of protection. I had no idea how he was with horrors but what was the worst that could happen?
Before I could set this plan in motion though, I had another issue creep up on me.
I got home and tried to use the bathroom, but I was constantly being interrupted because the lights kept flickering on and off. For a split second I wondered if we were being haunted, but then realised how stupid that was.
"The bathroom lights aren't working again" I told my parents as I entered the living room where the two of them were watching some game show rerun on TV.
"Yeah we should really see about getting that sorted" Mom sighed.
"Yeah I agree, it's getting to me now" Dad agreed, distractedly.
"Really? Who doesn't like to pee in strobe lighting?" I joked. Getting no amused response from any of them I broached what I hoped was no longer a touchy subject. "Well I don't know if it'll help, but I know a guy who can fix that" That certainly got their attention.
