Usually this is the part where I thank everyone for reading and this one isn't any different. Except I mean it more than ever. This book truly was a challenge to write and I honestly almost gave up on several occasions. Only the constant encouragement from the readers and friends I have made since taking this up inspired me to carry on, and I'm glad that I did. It was tough, but worth it.
So as a result, this book is dedicated to anyone who's ever read at least one chapter of anything I've ever written. You guys truly don't know how amazing you all are!
One of the biggest challenges was getting inside the head of a sixteen year old girl for the main character. Obviously I've never been one and I couldn't figure them out when I was that age, so I have no idea what possessed me to try now! I'd like to think that I did a pretty reasonable job though.
One thing that wasn't a challenge at all was writing Jason's chapters. At the time of writing, I'm also a twenty-five year old man. And aside from the fact that I don't have a teenage neighbour pining over me (that I know of) a lot of Jason's thoughts, feelings and fears are also my own.
And now we come to the big thing. The clichés.
Firstly I feel like I should apologise to a lot of people because they told me upon reading the prologue that they felt bad because their stories would be classed as cliché. Firstly, those were Louise's opinions and not my own. Secondly, by the end of the story I feel that the whole thing reaches full circle. Louise's realisation about the clichés was very similar to my own.
Initially I wanted to simply write a "Non-cliché story. Don't we all? So I wrote out all the things I wanted to avoid throughout the whole story, but instead of using it as a map, I turned it into the prologue, and it remains as one of my single most favourite things I've ever written. So in summary, clichés are cool!
The Million Mile Hallway was not just a pastime for me, but a learning experience as well. Stepping out of my comfort zone and changing genre was both refreshing and absolutely frustrating at the same time. So I'd love to hear what you guys thought of it! So please answer the following questions and I'll love you forever!
What did you like about the story and was there anything you didn't really like?
What do think of the supporting characters such as Scott, Lily, Mason and Brandon?
Was there anything that you wish was elaborated on and do you still have any unanswered questions?
Thanks!
If you guys liked this story then please feel free to check out my other books: Doctor Happy and Dead Serious are both very different from this one but are more what I'm used to writing!
