I woke up early, the smell of toast and sausage filling my nostrils. Mm, thank god I have a mother that can cook! As you'll learn, I'm not very good in the kitchen..
"Kayser, get up! I woke you up fifteen minutes ago! Let's go!!" My mother screamed from the kitchen. I shot out of bed, pulling in a pair of skinny jeans and a red hoodie.
Luckily, this school didn't have a uniform like most private schools. It seemed more laid back and casual. Before my mother had time to yell at me again, I was parked at the kitchen table setting out plates.
She handed me my new book bag, scooping toast, eggs and sausages onto our plates.
"You excited for your first day?" She asked, sitting next to me and starting on her food. I got up, pouring a cup of coffee and moving back towards the table.
"Yeah, I just hope I make friends easily since it is the middle of the year," I told her, trying to act like I didn't care. The truth was, I was scared. Terrified even. Being gay wouldn't be easy with all boys.
At my old school, their was a freshman named Henry. All the boys teased him once they found out he'd been in the closet since seventh grade. He was pretty much the schools punching bag.
I didn't want to be that kid, the new one and obvious fuck up. So I planned on staying on the down low, and getting through these two years without a hitch.
But all this was easier said than done. Since I spent so much time thinking, I quickly grabbed my bag and waved to my mother, running out the door to catch my bus.
"Have a great day, honey!" My mother yelled through the front doorway.
"Will do!" I responded, continuing my brisk pace to the already parked bus. Once I arrived, I quickly boarded and took the first seat next to the door.
Yes, I understand the cool kids sit on the back, but I had a feeling of feel even more out of place back there. That is, until a boy sat next to me.
"Hello, name, number, GPA?" The boy asked, smiling his pearly whites at me. His glasses sat a bit low on his nose, but he was fairly attractive.
"My names Kayser. Um, who are you?" I asked, not bothering to answer his other questions.
"I'm Jar, Jarydd's my full name, but I like Jar," he told me, laughing at himself. This made me smile. He seemed so genuine and kind.
"Uh, i-its kinda my first day, do you think you could show me around the school?" I asked Jar, and he nodded.
"Sure, you got a schedule?" He asked before I pulled my crumpled schedule from the bag. He nodded at it, talking to himself as he read.
"I can take you to hour one, it's really close to the front of the school," he informed me. I nodded, thanking him as we hopped off the bus.
The school was huge, the red bricks and paneled windows making it look modern. It was honestly the nicest school I've ever seen. And the best part was, it was mine.
Ever since I was a kid, I've been used to having Kmart clothing and dollar store toys. But not anymore. Now I will shop at any store I want and attend a school that the main focus is education, not fighting.
"Here you go, have a great day!" Jar said, pulling me from my thoughts. I nodded, looking at the mostly empty classroom behind me.
"Thank you so much, you seem really cool. We should talk again," I said, watching him scribble something into his notebook. He shoved the folded paper into my arms, waving quickly as he went. I laughed, happy to have meet someone kind and helpful.
Once I entered the classroom, I sat down in the front row. Before I could even get my binder out of my bag, a forceful hand swatted the bag to the floor. I looked up, hoping fear wasn't evident in my eyes.
The boy looked at me as if I was a fly, his scowl stretching from one ear to the other. He said, "Well, who do we have here?"
"I-I'm Kayser," I said, being short to keep form stuttering. A group came up behind him, laughing to each other. The boy got really close to my ear.
"Didn't they tell you we don't accept fags here?" He whispered, my body stiffening. Shivers ran throughout my veins, my heart beating five times faster than before.
My gulp made the boys laugh, some even high fiving. I looked at my hands, letting them take their seats as students flooded in.
Nothing is worse than that feeling. The feeling of worthlessness and hate. It was my first day, yet my secret was already out. And I was certain I wouldn't be getting a boyfriend anytime soon.
Not my longest, but definitely liked this chapter!! Can't wait till you guys get to meet Jar some more and read the next chapter! Love you all, and hope you are enjoying to book.
