The moment I woke up, light blinded my sight. I turned, shielding my face from the intense rays shooting from the window. Then, I woke up, and reality set in.

On the first day of school, a boy down the river gave me a mysterious note, and I didn't know what to think of it! Of course I love the thought of having a boyfriend and not having to be afraid of my sexuality, but I didn't know what to do! I barely knew this boy!

Miles. He seemed to be consuming my mind all week, and now that it's Friday, I'm ready for a stress free weekend. Yes, I have seen Miles since the first day, but only at the lunch table. We didn't talk much, Jarydd is a real talker!

I got up, plugging my phone into my record player and blasting twenty one pilots. Who doesn't love waking up to vessel?

I ponder of something great
My lungs will fill and then deflate
They fill with fire
Exhale desire
I know is dire my time today
I have these thoughts so often I ought
I replace that slot with what I once bought
Cause somebody stole
My car radio
And now I just sit in silence

After the first verse, I was already done getting dressed and working on my hair. I didn't try to hard since I wasn't planning to do anything today. Then, I thought about texting Miles.

Would I seem to desperate if I reached out to him? Or would he be flattered that I read his note? Either way, I made up my mind, and texted the number Miles had written on the note.

Kayser: Hey, what's up Miles?

My heart was racing, but I was unsure why. I couldn't even text a guy without getting butterflies now?! Suddenly, my phone buzzed, and I rushed to answer it.

"Hello?" I said quickly, smiling like a weirdo.

"Hey Kayser, what's up?" Miles said, sounding kind of down.

"Nothing, having a boring day at home. What are you doing?" I asked.

"Nothing," He told me, sounding like he was upset still.

"Are you okay?" I finally questioned.

"Can I see you, please?" Miles said, sounding desperate.

"Of course, you know which house is mine," I told him, and the phone call quickly ended. I didn't know what to expect, but I ran down the stairs to meet Miles anyway.

As soon as I reached the front door, Miles was already knocking.

"Miles, are you alright? You seemed upset," I said, looking the boy up and down like he had his emotions written on his skin.

"N-no, m-m-my dad, h-he never came home l-last night," Miles managed to say before breaking down into sobs on my front porch. My heart seemed to shatter at his words, and I dropped to me knees to hug him.

"Shhh, Miles, it'll be okay. Where did he go?" I asked.

"H-he went f-fishing down the river i-in our old wooden boat," He explained. I hugged him tight, his tears staining my shirt.
