i head home after school and decide on an outfit to wear for tonight.

i know for a fact that jack's gonna be there, so i wanna show a little skin. i know, i know, i say that every time.

i go downstairs to grab a snack, but the only decent thing i can spot in the fridge is a pre-made ham sandwich.

just as i turn around with the sandwich in my left hand, dad stops me in my tracks.

"hey, honey. i'm sorry we borrowed all of your money, but here's 20 dollars. your mom said you'd be going out tonight, so i thought maybe this would help in case you wanna grab a bite or somethin."

he lightly but genuinely smiles at me, his hand held out with a 20 dollar bill in it, gesturing for me to take it.

"thanks," i reply, quickly snatching the money out of his hand and rushing to my room, refusing to make eye contact with him.

i lie on my bed with my stomach faced down, scrolling endlessly on instagram.

it's almost eight, so i decide to change into my outfit for the night.

right after i finish changing, i receive a text from jas

"ready to have some fun?" jasmine asks, quickly glancing at me while i stare out the window.

"yeah, i guess so," i reply, not-so-excitedly.

of course, we pull up to johnson's place and the night always starts off with jasmine getting tipsy.

i stand near her with a red cup in my hand, though it's not filled with beer, just water.

"i see jack eyeing you from the kitchen. he soOo wants you, haze!" jasmine blurts out, already incredibly drunk.

i look to my left, and i do indeed see jack eyeing me and my outfit.

"be right back," i mumble to jasmine, even though i'm fully aware she doesn't care at this point.

i approach jack in the kitchen, looking around to fill my cup up with more water.

"you look really great tonight, haze." jack mentions, trying to seem genuine.

"thank you," i smile at him, "excuse me, but you're kinda in front of the water dispenser." i laugh at him, and he scoots away from the fridge.

i press my cup against the lever and watch the water pour into my cup. "see ya," i smile at jack, and walk away.

"see ya," i hear him mumble back.

i look around for jasmine, but she's nowhere in sight. i walk outside and notice that her car's already gone, too.

ugh, great. she probably hooked up with one of these douches.

i lie on one of the cream-colored suede couches in johnson's living room. without even noticing, i drift to sleep.

-

"hey," a voice whispers at me, "wake up, party's over."

i open my eyes and try to regather my senses. jack giggles at me. oh shit, everyone at the party is practically gone.

"oh my god, what time is it?" i ask in a panicky tone.

"it's one in the morning, haze. chill out. i can give you a lift home if you need it," he offers, kindly.

"yes please, i don't know where jasmine went. she was way too drunk to be driving," i add.

"oh, i see. johnson left with her, don't worry." he states. i cringe at the thought of jas and johnson becoming an item. weird.

-

jack opens the passenger's door for me, and i hop inside. his car is pretty clean for a guy like him.

"make a left here," i say, carefully directing him to my house.

just a few minutes later, we pull up to my house. i know for a fact that no one's home because mom and dad work overnight just to make ends meet.

"thanks for the lift," i politely say, getting out of his car.

"no problem," he says, and i close the passenger's door of his car.

i walk up to the front door, and shuffle in my purse for my keys. fuck, i left them in my room.

now what am i supposed to do? wait here til midnight, and risk the chance of getting kidnapped? that's not likely to happen, but still, it's too cold out here.

i turn around and luckily, jack's still there. he rolls the passenger's window down.

"get in," he smiles, and i run back to his car.

"you can stay at my place tonight, no one's home. my parents go outta town every weekend," he explains.

"thanks jack, appreciate it." i smile at him, then focus on the road, straight ahead of us.

it's really warm in his car, it's very relieving. but now i really owe him...
