His words stilled me.

Stefani said, with a gentleness to her voice, "Taylor, you're pushing her too far again."

He nodded, "Sorry, Mads."

I said lowly, "It-it's fine."

"We'll take our time, ok?"

"Yeah. It's just...it reminds me of what my dad did. And what you said about him."

"For which I'm sorry for. I shouldn't have said that."

"It's ok. I'm not upset with you."

Stefani asked, "What do you want to do now?" Probably to make me feel better.

"Uh..." I took a deep breath and selflessly said, remembering her worried face from earlier, "I...could try to eat something."

She nodded, smiling slightly. "I'll get you something light to eat, ok?"

I nodded, relieved that she understood. After she left, Taylor tried to cheer me up by making jokes. It didn't work at first, but it started to cheer me up a little by the time she came back.

Looking at it made me nauseous, but I took a deep breath and forced myself to eat it. Surprisingly, it stayed down. That made me feel better. Maybe I was fixable after all.

She said sweetly, "I'm proud of you, Madison."

"Thanks." I looked over and noticed Taylor had snuck out. "Where'd he go?"

"Probably to book you a therapist."

I nodded. "I'm so lucky I met you. I wouldn't have been able to handle this without you guys."

"I'm glad I met you too."

A smile formed on my face, as the weight of that comment hit me. Lady Gaga is happy she met me! I felt tears slid down my face. Happy tears. It was a nice feeling compared to what I had felt lately. I wondered how long it would last.

Stefani asked, "You ok, Maddie."

"Yeah. These are happy tears?"

She smiled. "I'm glad. You deserve all the happiness in the world."

I pulled her into a hug, as joy took over my body for a moment. I felt like myself until I remembered why I met her.
