Madison's POV:

Stefani left. I went to the living room and sat down, Taylor following me.

"I can't believe she would do that to herself. After all she'd done to get me to do the right thing and be happy. Why would she do this?"

"She was worried you'd died. We all were. She just took it the hardest because she's struggling, Madison. She's struggled with depression for a while. Even before I knew her. But, she's still the same person you knew."

"I know that. It's just...she...she promised she'd help me with...something. How can she do that if she just fucking lets herself die like that?! Did her promise even matter to her?! How can she be so selfish?!"

I heard a gasp and looked up.

Stefani was there, fresh tears falling down her face. How much did she hear?

"I'm...I'm so sorry," she mumbled, running away, toward her room.

"What should I do, dad?"

"I'll go check on her. You just relax, ok?"

"But...I can't. Not like this."

"I understand, but just trust me, ok?"

"...ok."

He ran off in the same direction.

Maybe I should apologize. But...it's true. She was being selfish. And it's not like I intended to say it to her face. She shouldn't have been listening in. Am I wrong for feeling this way?
