"Yeah, Mom, I'll be fine."
"You sure, honey?"
"For the hundredth time, yes!"
"Oh well, you can't blame me for worrying. You're in the hospital for goodness sake! How many times have I told you to look left and right before crossing the road?"
"Firstly, Mom, I did look left and right. But the crossing was at a bend and you know bends are blind spots, right? The car sped around it and hit me. So it's not my fault! Secondly, you don't have to worry about me because the doctor said I'm gonna survive! But what you have to worry about is that I'm not playing in the damn finals! They're gonna lose without me!"
"Now, Rivers, I don't want you to worry about some football finals-"
"But it's the finals-"
"Don't interrupt me. Yes, it's the finals. But there's still next year. And I want you to focus on getting well."
"But mom-"
"No 'buts'. Now I'm going to fetch your sister here and I expect you to stay in bed."
"There's nowhere I can even go, Mom, both my legs are fractured."
"Just making sure. Okay, bye honey, I'll be back with your sister in no time!"
[leaves hospital ward]
"Great. I must have the worst luck in the world. An accident just before the finals? Just my luck."
[continues rambling]
[5 minutes later]
"Um...excuse me?"
"I mean, it was already so obvious that we were gonna win and now this stupid accident happens and-"
"Excuse me!"
"What? Who's there?"
"For your information, you're not in a private ward. You're sharing it with me. And I don't appreciate your rambling when I'm trying to sleep here!"
"I never asked you to listen!"
"Even if I buried myself under a mountain of pillows, your loud, obnoxious voice will still penetrate right through my eardrums!"
"My voice isn't that loud, okay. Where are you anyways? I can't even see you."
"Seriously? Are you dumb or something? I'm on the other side of the curtain."
"Hey, watch it. No one told me there was someone else here."
"Well because it's kind of common sense? If there's no one else, the curtains won't be drawn."
"Who do you think you are, talking to me like I'm some dumb person who doesn't know anything?"
"Because you are?"
"I'm warning you-"
"Even if you threaten me, you can't do anything to me."
"Oh, you don't know what I'm capable of."
"Hm, let me see. Two broken legs? Yeah, you sure are capable of a lot of things."
"Stop talking to me like that!"
"Like what?"
"Do you know who I am!?"
"Do you know who I am?"
"...no."
"Good, then we're equal."
"..."
"But I do happen to know your name is Rivers Walter."
"That means we're not equal because I don't know your name."
"Whatever. Now be quiet. I need my beauty sleep."
"Wait, what's your name?"
"..."
"Hello?"
"..."
"You are so telling me your name when you wake up."
