"Who...who are you?!" Milo stuttered out.
"Did I not mention my name? Sorry! I'm Gabriel, but you guys can call me Gabe."
"Are...erm. Are you an angel?" He asked carefully.
"Why, yes. I am. I wonder how you knew so quickly."
"Well, you are called Gabriel and you did just come-"
"Wait. But you're a boy. Gabriel's a girl!" I interrupted.
"That's a myth," Said the American Angel.
"Did you not know that?!" Asked milo, shocked.
"No. And shouldn't you be blonde?" I asked Gabe.
"And shouldn't you also be blonde?" He asked. True. I used to be blonde. I sighed.
"Anyway, why do we need to go away?! Nothing's wrong here!"
Milo coughed. "Speak for yourself!" He muttered.
"Well, nothing extremely wrong!"
"Are you kidding me? If I ever walk outside this library door, no one will stop pestering me! I'll have to run away! And then I wouldn't see you!" This was true.
"Precisely why you should come with me! And the reason why you need to come is that people are looking for you. Bad people. And we're good people, come to rescue you!"
"But we don't know you! You could be the bad people!"
"Since when were the Angels the bad people?" He asked.
"Still. You might not be an angel!" He smirked, less spontaneous than milo's, as if added in to make him look sexy. I don't see why he would want to appear like that to me anyway. He was obviously gay. Or maybe it was to milo. I don't think milo is gay. I would never stand a chance with him if he was and besides, he would have told me.
"Oh, really?" And with that, two wings grew from his shoulder blades, unlike anything I had ever seen before. They weren't fluffy, or feathery. Or even shiny. They were like two translucent sycamore seeds. Gold and tinted with white. Black veins trickled down like water from the fragile bone at the top. Beautiful. Like him. Mysterious and supernatural.
"Well, you're not taking us!" I screamed. I was seriously spooked out by him and the portal and Terb and I wanted it to go back to normal. When I was a carefree (hardly) girl who didn't give a crap about anything.
"Well, that's just too bad because I like you and I wouldn't want you to die."
"Aubrey, maybe we should. He looks trustworthy enough! This is a chance to get away from my mother!" Milo hissed to me.
"Are you kidding me? We can't, milo!"
"Please!"
"What happened to the times when you were the sensible one?"
"To be honest, I'd like to know that myself. Come on!"

This was a decision that couldn't be rushed. It was, by milo screaming in one ear, and Gabe seductively whispering in the other.

"Ugh. Fine! We can go. But let us take a weapon, just in case, OK?"
"I'd really prefer if you didn't, but yes. You may. And also what weapon are you going to find here?" I scanned the room. It was a frikkin library, of course there were no goddamn weapons! Milo walked over to the desk, however, and brought back one of those sharp circle drawing things, a compass. Perfect! Small and discreet, though perfect for stabbing someone. I'd saw people in the school do it before. I needed to find something like that, hardly noticeable until it jabs you in the neck. Why am I thinking so evilly, I wondered. Then again, that wasn't really anything new. Skimming my eyes over the surface of the table that I was sitting on, someone had left a beautiful fountain pen. It wasn't much, but better than nothing.

"No, Aubrey, that's a fountain pen," Milo told me as if I didn't know already.
"Yes, milo, I know."
"I doubt it'll be much help."
"So what?"
"Well, you're the one that said to take weapons."
"Yes, and then you took the best one."
"There are plenty more compasses there."
"Frankly, I don't give. Now," I said harshly, turning to Gabe, "take us through the portal."
"Ok, this way," and he gestured to the absurd gold sheet in the middle of the room.
"Yeah, you know, I think we guessed that." Said milo snidely. He must have been angry at me.
"Wait! Where will the portal take us?" I screamed to Gabe before he walked through it.
"My home."
"And where is that?" I shouted, but he had already gone. Milo looked at me.
"You go first."
"Why? You scared?" I asked.
"No! And why are you being such a bitch?" This threw me, though I knew it was true.
"I don't know. Sorry. And yeah, I'll go through first."
"Ok. Thanks."

I took a deep lungful of the musty library air and immersed myself in the portal. Warm, liquified gold swallowed me as I took one last look at my friend. What if that was the last time I saw him? What if this was all some hoax to capture me or whatever? What if all I had to protect myself was a fountain pen? Milo told me there were other compasses there, I should have listened. I was an idiot, and that might have been the last I ever saw of him, but it wasn't, and about five seconds later, I was standing in a pleasant meadow, filled with wild flowers. Gabe was standing beside me, looking into the sky.

"Oh, it's you. I thought that your clever friend would come first. He seems braver." He told me, without even looking in my direction. Angel powers, I guessed.
"He is braver. He's just cautious."
"Cautious or selfish? Asking you to go first just in case it's a trap, so that he can save himself?"
"How can you just say that? He wouldn't ever do anything like that!" Milo smoothly walked through the portal then. He raised his eyebrows.
"This...doesn't look like what I expected heaven to look like."
"How do you know it's heaven?" Asked Gabe.
"It's kinda obvious."
"Well... What do we do now?" I asked.
"We enter." Gabe told us.
"How?" Asked me and milo at the same time. We are so in-sync.
Gabe laughed at us both. "Perhaps through the door?"
"What door?" Milo frustratedly asked.
"This one that is right in front of you." Said Gabe. Stupid us. There was a shiny black, metal door right beside us. It was so impressive I wondered how I hadn't saw it before.
"That wasn't there a minute ago!" Milo countered.
"It was. I just made it more visible to your human eyes." Gabe smirked. "So are you coming in or not?" Well we had to, didn't we? No going back now.
