??? POV-
His legs were falling asleep. He could feel pins and needles crawl over the skin of his legs as he sat under the stupid evergreen tree. He shifted his position slightly, trying to make himself more comfortable, but it didn't really help. He scowled in annoyance.
She was late.
Actually that was an understatement, she was extremely late!
He'd been sitting here for the last 5 hours, doing nothing but waiting for her to show up. The sun had still been up when he had arrived at the grove; but now it lay low on the horizon, impatient to sink out of the sky, ending the hours of twilight and letting night begin.
Letting out a sigh, he leaned his head back and looked through the tree's vast canopy, trying to guess the hour by the stars that were already visible in the sky. The dim light which shone through the leaves, lit up his silver eyes, making them shine like the surface of the moon.
It was about 29:50, he thought, letting out a disgruntled noise as he looked around the clearing of trees once more.
Maybe she'd changed her mind about coming with him. After all, it was a stupid idea. Even if they managed to get away- that is if he could manage to open a portal that didn't lead to a hazardous realm- they would have nowhere to go or any sort of plan in what to do then. They could have probably planned there escape out a bit better, except they could end up just about anywhere. There were 255 worlds in which they might end up, and even he didn't know where the portals he opened led to. He'd almost fallen into a volcano once...
Portal mishaps aside, she was better off staying here anyway. He, on the other hand, couldn't stand to stay here a moment longer, watching the day end, bringing him closer to the moment when his absence would be noticed.
He tried to get up from where he'd been sitting, only to discover the reason why the circulation to his legs had been cut off. With a hiss, a small black dragon- no larger than a beagle- fell out of his lap and onto the ground. The small reptile looked up at him indignantly as it shook itself off; opening its leathery wings and giving them a shake. Feeling sore all over, he decided to follow his daijmon's lead and stretched. His tensed muscles ached, complaining at being made to sit on the hard earth for so long. Especially his back. He hated leaning his back against anything, especially rough uneven bark. Every time he did, he always ended regretting it. Pulling off his jacket, he unfurled his wings and stretched them out to their full extent. Ten feet of leather, scales, and bones spread out on either side of him.
The dragon who sat in front of him, curved its elegant neck to look at its measly eight foot wingspan and then back at the massive twenty feet of wings which stood in front of him. Looking unimpressed, the small creature stalked off, walking in the manner as a bulldog might. The dragon climbed the ladder that had been hammered into the tree's trunk, and jumped into the tree house that lay hidden within the evergreen's branches and it's blanket of leaves. Ignoring the angry reptile, he furled his wings again, before putting his jacket back on.
He had waited long enough, he was leaving without her. He had been looking forwards to having her along, but if he didn't leave soon, someone was bound to notice that he was missing... she was better off staying here, anyway. It was better he left now before she did show up, he knew just how hard it was to get her to give up on something once she set her mind to it.
He took a deep breath as he raised his arms in front of him. Hands flat, so that it looked as though his palms were pressed against something solid. Closing his eyes, he began to concentrate and his hands started to glow with a silver light. Just then, his triangular cat's ears pricked up. He could hear something crashing through the underbrush, coming towards him. Abruptly cutting off the spell he'd berm doing, he climbed a nearby tree and hid among the leaves. He wasn't sure what was running through the trees towards him, but he didn't want to take any chances. The sun was now low enough on the horizon so that only the slightest sliver of light illuminated the grove. The dark clothes he wore helping him blend into the gloom perfectly.
As he watched, a girl stumbled into the grove. At that very moment the sun set and his vision turned nocturnal. Enabling him to see the girl he'd been waiting for. His silver eyes growing large as he stared at her. Moonlight shinning off a beautiful white wedding dress.
