Piper and I are at the ready, waiting for the horn that signals our start. Aphrodite, Poseidon and Hades cabin were all put on one team, as well as some others. I could have chosen Percy to come along with me, but he's a little more... shall we say... BOOM. What I need is stealth. Hence Ms. Charmspeak.
The horn sounds and I immediately begin to sprint. Normally I wouldn't try so hard when we play capture the flag, but this time is different. This time I get to kick Will's ass. The Apollo and Hades cabins are on opposite teams for this game and I'm determined to prove that I'm better than him at something. Especially after he beat me so easily at basketball this morning. Curse his tall and musclar physique.
This is more set to my skills anyway. I'm short and typically dark, so to speak, I can move through shadows. I'm sneaky, and everyone knows it. And though I'll never admit it, Will forcing me into healthy food has drastically improved my cardiovascular system. I can run for miles. That's why my team put me on scouting this round.
I weave through the trees on the edge of the game boundaries with Piper just behind me. Hopefully we'll run into less trouble here. My running starts to become rythmic as I get further and further from the creek. Every once in a while I stop to catch my breath, which is what I'm doing now. Piper and I split up, agreeing to stay on the same course and shout for help if needed. This way we'll cover more ground.
To be honest I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone at this point. Maybe I'm just getting better at blending in.
After a long stretch of jogging I reach the edge of a small clearing. Clearings are bad. They make it a lot harder to hide. I decide to walk around it rather than into it. That way I could still see the flag if it's there.
Ahead of me a small hill is covered in half dead grass and a few patches of tiny white mushrooms. They stand out quite a bit, contrasting well with the green forest. Above me the sun peeks from behind the clouds and I smile. It's warm reach reminds me of Will. I look up and take it all in. I'm so lucky to be here, I can hardly believe I ever had doubts.
I want to know it all at once. The sights, the feelings, the smells, ohh the smells. It always seems fresh in Camp Half-Blood. Though I suppose you should expect that what with the trees and all. I just begin to think of how strange I must look, sniffing the air like that, when a snapping noise sounds not thirty feet away. I immediately crouch to the nearest tree and begin fading into the shadows.
The dark boughs encircle me as I sit there, completely still. I dare not move and I try my best not to breathe. Every minute seems like two, and soon it's like I had been there for an hour. Silence had fallen, besides the whistles of birds or the odd scuttling noise. Most likely squirrels. Perhaps that was all I heard earlier, some small rodent whisking across the forest floor. Any human would have moved by now and proved their presence.
I stand up and exhale. It was nothing. Great. Now I've wasted my precious time, which could have been spent destroying Will. I start to move forwards again and brush off my pants when I hear it again. This time it's closer, followed by a small crunch of leaves on the forest floor only a few steps behind me. I smirk and look down, my posture becoming arrogant. Whoever just 'snuck up on me' is about to learn their lesson. I draw my sword and start to turn, completely confident in my own victory. That's when my body collides with someone else's. They are much larger than I am, unfortunately. I fall hard, letting out a soft 'oof.' As soon as I land my sword jumps out of my hand and seems to skip away.
The person who's managed to tackle me is male probably, or from the Ares cabin. I groan when they finally move, letting my lungs take in air again. The attacker takes the opportunity presented by my weakness and pins my arms down. I'm beginning to think I'm doomed when I remember Piper, and our promise to call if we're in trouble. But as I begin to yell her name my attacker's priorities flip from my hands to my mouth, which is now dancing between his rough lips. I recognize them immediately. The kiss deepens and I don't dare open my eyes. Then he pulls away.
When I finally do open my eyes my first impression is woah, because his golden curls are almost touching my forehead, he's so close. The shining waves of blonde frame his familiar blue eyes. I would talk, if he hadn't covered my mouth with his nimble fingers as soon as he stopped kissing me. Will, you cheeky little shit.
"Hey, sweetie" He says casually, breaking the silence. I roll my eyes, then he leans forward and they snap back to him. He stares back, then bites his lip. Now his nose is brushing against mine. I feel my eyes widen and my heart beats like there's no tomorrow. Then he whispers. "There's still a few minutes left until the end of capture the flag..."
NOT MY ARTA/N: Hey if you guys read this and didn't like it don't worry because it's crap compared to the next one.
