I flung my plain light blue cover off my bed and ran to my closet. I found out this morning that trying to find a sophisticated yet pretty outfit in less than a minute is very hard... In the end, I just chose my dark blue skinny jeans and my cream woolly jumper to go over a white cami. I shoved my feet into my new light brown ankle boots and ran to my bathroom. I quickly ran a hairbrush through my natural straight blonde hair. On school days I never bother with make-up, because I hide in the shadows and no one ever notices me, so why should I bother? I brushed my teeth and ran down stairs.

"Bye, mom!"

"Bye hun! I made you a coffee, it is in the travel mug on the side counter in the kitchen!"

You see, this is why I love my mom she always knows what to say to make me feel a little better, even if it is just offering me a coffee!

"Thank you! I love you!"

"You to baby, have a good day at school!"

My dad is already at work, I hardly ever see him in the week days because he has to go to his lawyer firm so early and he does not get back home until really late. But I do know that he only works his butt off so hard, so that my family can live well and go on holidays and have family weekends away.

I grabbed my coffee and ran outside to my red ford fiesta ST. I love my little car, she is always so reliable and easy to drive. I hopped in and buckled up my seat belt. I started the engine and drove to school.

In the parking lot at school, everyone has reserved spaces. I know, weird right? At the front are the 'populars' parking spaces, so that includes the football team and the cheerleaders. On the second row are the people who are just normal and get along fine with everyone, which is just about most people at school. And then at the back is I and Missy's parking spots, or you could call us the nerds. I don't like to think myself as a nerd. Just because I get my homework done and in all my classes I am a grade A student does not mean that I am a nerd. I don't spend every waking hour reading or writing, trust me.

I put my head onto my driving wheel so that I could doze off until Missy arrives. I felt myself slipping off into unconsciousness when suddenly there was a huge hoot from one of those really loud and annoying hooters right outside my window, whoever did this was going to die. I looked up and saw Missy doubled over in laughter outside my window. I opened my door and cleared my throat,

"Yes, yes Missy, you are a genius and all but would you mind getting to class now?"

Missy was a prankster. Don't get me wrong, I love her to death it's just she loves to go overboard sometimes...

"Hahaha, your face!"

Which just started her off into a laughing spaz attack again.

I just turned around and grabbed my new binders for this year and walked into school. When Missy realised that everyone was looking at her, and I was no longer there to support her she hurried after me.

"You dummy! Know you just made me look like an idiot in front of Dillon!"

"Too bad you dummy."

Dillon is Missy's dream lad. It goes back to kindergarten when Dillon drew a flower for her. I still find this so funny.

We had all received our new timetables and locker numbers through e-mail about a week ago, and I had already compared my schedule with Missy's, and we had about half of our lessons together.

I walked up to my locker and unlocked it. I shoved my binders in and took out my science notebook.

"Maddie, I have got to go Mrs Webster told me to come early for my arts lesson to get a head start, see you later!"

"Bye Mis!"

I turned around from shutting my locker door, to find that the cheerleaders and footballers had just entered. They did this every morning, they come in last and make a load commotion which turns everyone's attention to them, this is exactly what they wanted to happen. They are low life attention seekers. And I am proud to say that I hate them.

The football quarterback, John McIntyre always had the cheer captain Meg on his arm. They were the schools 'it' couple. Let's just say that John is like a perfect Greek god, and Meg is like a slutty Greek goddess.

I entered my Science lab and sat at the empty back row by myself. Most people were already here, except if there were any 'populars' in my top set, which I am guessing there is not because they are all dumb fucks. They are all relying on their football or cheerleading careers to get them into a good college! I am just glad that I am not one of their moms!

Science past without a breeze, I found this subject easy and I loved my teacher.

My other subjects also flew by and before I knew it, I was in lunch. Missy was already sat at a table with a new girl.

I grabbed my tuna sandwich and sprite a went to sit with them.

"Hey Missy, and hey-?"

"Rebecca, but you can call me Bex."

"Cool, well it is nice to meet you Bex! I'm Maddie."

"It's nice to meet you too!"

Throughout lunch I spoke to Bex quite a lot and found out that she was similar to Missy and me, high grades and very organised, I knew that we would become fast friends. Bex had just moved from England, and had one of those amazing British accents. She moved over here because of her dad's work and because of the climate.

"Bex, after school Missy and I are going to volley ball practise, do you want to come?"

"I would love to come and watch but I have knee and back problems so I can't run. It would be nice to see what you can do!"

"Ok, great I have got last lesson with you, so I will take you there! Come on, let's go, see you later Mis!"

"Bye Mads, bye Bex. See you later!"

We got to French, and sat down at the back. I loved French. I was very fortunate because we always went to France in the holiday and so I was nearly fluent. I had already been predicted an A by my teachers, so I do not need to pay much attention.

Bex and I walked down to the gym and met Missy outside,

"Hey, Missy let's go!"

"We can't practise, the cheerleaders say that the ground is too slippery outside so they have to use the gym for practise. Seen as they have the national tournament coming up, the teachers let them use it instead of us!"

"Will we have it next week?"

"Yes we will, whether they like it or not!"

We all drove our separate ways home after telling Bex where to park her car tomorrow, with us.

When I got home, no one was in, so I shoved some pizzas in the oven and ran upstairs to do my homework.

I sat down and ate my pizza, wondering where mom was.

I was washing up, when I heard the phone ringing.

"Hello?"

"Hello, dear, can you come to the hospital please?" Mom asked in a shaky and very teary voice.

"What's happened?"

"your dad has been in a car accident, but don't worry, he will be fine, just a broken leg and a broken arm."

At that time, I was too relieved that the damage to dad was only minimal to think of the bigger picture. Dad would be out of work, and mums job is very low paid. Oh shit, what are we going to do?
