It wasn't exactly what Evan expected, the meeting. Jonathan was all but dead quiet throughout unless he had to answer and Evan hadn't said a single word. He wasn't sure if he even breathed at any point.

He received dirty looks from Jon's boss, Rachel's dad, and he didn't make any eye contact with him that wasn't uncomfortable. In fact Rachel stood right next to her father with a scowl on her face and pursed lips, though she smirked at some points, still eyeing him.

I just wanna leave, Evan thought to himself as he looked at the dimly lit red floor and rocked on his heels, sighing to himself when they were told they could go.

The entire day he'd just been trying to leech information out of everywhere he went, anywhere he could go. Most areas were restricted to him and he was holed up in his room.

The next few weeks would go similarly, except when he'd "accidentally" end up at Jon's room and lounge around with him. That is, when he was there.

He was gone most of the time, doing one thing or another. And when he came back he was exhausted and covered in blood or just not wanting to talk at all. Evan grew irritated though he enjoyed rummaging through Jonathan's shelves and his closet, digging under his bed to read some overused comic.

He was surprised at what little he could actually find out about the place: where it was located, what their plans were, who was a regular. This is until he heard a small leak of information from a passing guard at his door just as he was heading to bed.

"Yeah," the guard answered someone. "Jacob's been spotted with that bunch of Aecors. What idiots...anyway Night Shade is supposed to go on tomorrow...yep...I know..." His voice trailed off as Evan strained to hear it, eyes wide.

He needed to warn the others, tell them what was coming. Well, he didn't really know it was coming but whatever was happening tomorrow meant that something bad was going to happen, especially if Jon's family was involved.

"Shit," Evan mumbled, unable to go to sleep with this new information. Something- anything- had to be around to be able to call them. Nope, nothing. Nowhere, not at all. He groaned and sat on his bed with his hands pulling at his hair, wondering what he was going to do.

---

"Jon?" Evan called just as they finished lunch, following him out to one of the training floors.

"What's up?"

"Um, do you know about Night Shade?"

"Proj- what? No, I don't," he suddenly insisted, turning back to the shelves of weapons.

"You know about it," Evan grumbled, gasping when Jonathan pushed him against the wall with a gun to the base of his chin, ready to blow his brains out.

"You're not supposed to," Jonathan quietly growled out, quickly checking around and pulling Evan off to a corner, probably out of the cameras. "What did you hear?"

"Jon-"

"What did you hear!"

"Not that much! I swear!" Evan whined, trying not to flinch against the gun. "I just heard that something was happening today to some person named Jacob, who's with my friends! Jon! Your brothers! Come on!"

"Jacob," Jonathan quietly mumbled, lowering the gun.

"Jon?" Evan called, trying to get him to listen. "You can't let them hurt your brothers, come on. You just can't do that. Marcel? Luke? Me? We need you back home, man."

"You're staying with me," Jonathan said, now looking at him with the gun dropped to his side. "And you're not leaving my sights all day, got it? And no weapons on you, either." He swiftly turned around and shot at the target down the line even though they weren't even at the stand, Evan wincing when he saw that it had gone through right in the head, clean.

"I-I got it..."

"Good." Blue eyes went to a clock on the wall before he grabbed Evan by the sleeve. "Because it's time to go."

---

"Hey Marcel!" Luke called as they stood around the empty street, just about heading inside after some shooting practice.

"What?" Marcel called back, wiping the sweat off his forehead. It had grown immensely hot and it was only three in the afternoon.

"I just got a signal."

"A signal?"

"Yeah...I put a tracker on Evan's jacket-"

"You really didn't trust that kid, did you," Marcel teased.

"-and a blip just showed up. I don't know why, but it's there now."

A quiet took over them as each tried to think about what it could mean, Marcel waving his hand as he pulled the package out from the slot out front, Jacob looking over it curiously.

"What's that?"

"Well, I knew you really wanted to continue the comic, so I ordered another one and it came in."

"But it was for-"

"This is another package. Don't worry. It's for you, Jacob." Marcel handed him the box, watching with a smile as the young boy slowly tore into it.

"Marcel," Luke said quietly, warning in his voice.

"Hm?"

"He's coming."

"Who?"

"And he's coming in fast."

"Who's coming in f-"

A shot echoed through the air and Marcel, Luke, and Jacob all turned their heads to see a truck not too far down the road with two red cars just behind it, rushing in their direction.

The three gathered around the comic books in the box looked at each other, but each were unable to move. Was it fear? Was it shock? Was it-

"Luke."

The bearded man turned his head to see the two behind him, looking further past into the box of comic books where his attention was caught by the cover of the new editions themselves.

There was blood splatter.

And a thud of a body.
