Chapter 8

I must've walked to my bed chambers last night at some point because that's where I woke up. Today was a new day and I was willing to make use of it. I start to walk down to the infirmary to only be stopped by Valencia and she had a worried look on her face.

"Get back into your room, hurry!" She's in a very showing dress as she pushes me back into my chambers.

"What's gonna on?" I ask while she shuts the door to my bedroom. "And why are you dressed so..."

"Showing? It's because the king ordered me to go to your bedroom last night to um uh..." She said nervously as she messes up her hair with a brush.

My father sent her last night to do what?!?! Why would my father do that? That's against everything he believes in!

"Okay I know what your thinking Cade but I think it was one of his last hopes to get you to fall in love with me. If you can fall in love with me in the dining room then you do in the... You know what." She looks at me intently.

And oh did I know what she meant. Of course my father would do that. Maybe he believed that she wasn't that type of girl to do that with someone and that's why I didn't love her. I turn around to see her walking towards me with a brush.

"What are you doing?" I glanced curiously.

"I'm going to fluff out your hair, it makes it look messy." All I felt was the brush making tons of knots, and didn't care for it.

"Are you sure this is necessary?" I mutter as she makes more clunks of hair.

"Yes, I'm sure." She takes the hair brush out of my hair and walks towards the door.

"Wait Valencia, where are you going?" I yell as she is about to close the door.

"I'm sorry, this is going to sound revolting but I uh I have to report to your father." She whispers as she puts her head down.

I wasn't going to ask nor stop her as she leaves my bed chambers. Not really sure what she's going to tell my father but hopefully she's a good on the spot thinker. Now I will head to the infirmary.

As I make my way down Lord Gunner stops with me. I sigh with unpleasantness. I know where this is going to end up. Another batch of girls going home.

"Prince Cade! So glad to see you and so are the girls waiting for you in the entrance way!" He practically leaps in his steps saying those words.

"Not now Gunner." I try to pass his but his round build stops me.

"Prince Cade I really think you should at least see these women before you send them home."

"Lord Gunner I already know what my answer is going to be, no." I sigh. "I don't even have to see them to know."

I see disappointment in his eyes and felt terrible for being the reason behind it. The only problem is that if I see them I'll also have to see their disappointment in telling themselves they are not good enough.

Then I see a girl sprinting for me. She had worried blue eyes and a dark shade of red for a dress on. It was hard to tell how old she was maybe 16-17, her parents must've had to sign a waiver or something to get her here.

"Help me, please help me!" The girl yells.

I see the guards try to grab her but she's too fast and quick. As they try to grab her little frame she jumps over their arms. She was running towards me.

"Prince Cade my friend she's here somewhere in the castle. Her name is Valencia Derez!" She says while panting.

I wave the guards away. Then I grab the girls arm to run her to the infirmary. That's where we always meet up. Noah isn't awake but he doesn't need to be for this.

"What's your name girl?"

"My name is Lily, Lily Halten." She looks around the room amazed.

"Lily?" Valencia walks in.

"Valencia!!" Lily yells and runs towards her.

They clash their lips and arms and I chose that moment to change Noah's ice bags. I didn't want to interrupt them so I did it with slowness on my mind. Once I got done Noah chose that moment to wake up.

"Hey Noah."

"Who is she?" Noah asks sleepily.

"Her name is Lily Halten." I let him figure out the details.

At this time Lily and Valencia were just talking about the castle and all the events that's happened. Then Lily looked at me.

"Thank you." Lily mouths.

"No problem." I mouth back.

Lily turns back to Valencia. They continue to talk some more. I walk towards them and sadly interrupt their conversation.

"Lily I hate to tell you this but you're going to have it go back home." I tell her.

"Wait but she just got here." Valencia gives me a dirty look.

"I'm sorry but the reason she's here is because she was apart of a batch of women sent to the castle for me to choose for a wife."

"What if I say to the king she's my best friend, maybe he'll let her stay." Valencia says as she looks at Lily.

I know that look. Noah gives me it all the time. The look of want and need. I understood their pain for each other, Noah and I do the same thing. We hate it that we are held apart, but there is nothing that we can do.

"You can ask my father, maybe he'll make an exception." I tell them .

"I'll ask him first thing tomorrow, as for now Lily you'll sleep in my chamber." Valencia smiles.

I look back at Noah, he didn't look good. I walk over to him to change the ice. Some of the minor bruises around the major had healed up. So he was getting better, but I can't even imagine the pain.

"Noah are you okay?"

"Yes I'll be fine. Just wish we had some whiskey or something to dull the pain." He yelps out a little laugh.

I smile, I hope he gets better.
